The James Sellers of Lawrence County, TN in 1840 and 1850 ends up in Maury
County, TN by 1860. Maury County, TN, is where most of the sons of James
T/Y Sellers that died in Chatham County, NC circa 1805 ended up shortly
after the death of James T/Y Sellers in Chatham County, NC.
All of this is from early family history and I have been unable to trace
this line. Could Ester Sellers be Ruth E. Sellers?

Wow! Thank you! This is MY Mary Sellers CRAIG!!! I have
her birth and
death dates correct as this verifies it. Now I have information on her
husband which I didn't have before. Thank You! I have just sent
the 1850

Hope
it is helpful to others...I couldn't make a connection to mine and they
spell SELLERS as SELLARS mixed together in the remarks section...not my
misspelling.
Thanks again!

There was a Mary "Polly" Sellers born about 1804, daughter of
John Sellers and Elizabeth Hart. John was a son of James and Patience
Sellers from Chatham Co
NC. Mary married Samuel Crawford 6 January 1829 in Maury Co TN, but
they had
troubles and Mary ran away from home a number of times. Crawford
petitioned
the Tennessee legislature on 27 September 1833 against Mary and presented
depositions by Dickson Sellers and James Sellers who supported Crawford's
position. James Sellers testified that Crawford's first wife was his
sister and Mary was his cousin. This was James III, and his sister Anne
had married
Crawford 23 February 1804. Anne died 1828. Dickson (Dixon)
Sellers was brother of James III.

- am sending your info to our SELLERS group - we have members
working on the Sellers from Chatham Co, NC to Maury Co, Tn.
Do you have ANY info on Daniel Booker and Sarah Sellers= where married,
where first child born? I see a will of 1783 Chatham Co, NC listed
(don't have copy-need) is this same one? Thank You for sharing any info
on them - marie, iowa
JOAN and DEMASTUS - Thanks for taking the time and info to walk thru these
SELLERS -
Read some more of the county minutes and land transfers from Robert
SELLERS to Bingums/etc - No source of relationship - One was a gift to?
(will post to

HOWEVER, I find tonite, I do NOT have copy of original 1850/60 maury co,
tn Census -
have been using the index!=Not near as Good - Need original!
THIS census should show if M.A.SELLERS 1804/6 has a crippled child=?
IF MARY/ANN SELLERS CRAWFORD assumed her single name?
I DO Not have the OTHER pages of this Divorce - They are NOT in the
extractions of Divorces!
SOMEONE send! or tell where to obtain=
And if Mary Ann SELLERS/married 1829 Samuel Crawford is the daughter of
ISAAC SELLERS and JAMES and DICKSON SELLERS are sons of ROBERT SELLERS = we
would have a cousin
AND if JAMES SELLERS is son of ROBERT SELLERS who married SARAH
BYNUM
BOOKER who already had dau ANN BOOKER (= their l/2 sister) that married
Samuel
Crawford lst and she died 1828=Same Mother
WE are NOT talking the Same Mary/Ann=two different gals=BOOKER and SELLERS
Would Prove Your History - YOU do understand How I need explanations,
thanks for patience! I am sure this will help our SELLERS group also -

FROM BILL BTimmons@aol.com
I have read the various postings about the Sellers family
that located in
Maury County, TN, and here's my two cents worth: James T. Sellers
married
about 1755 Patience (I'd bet a quarter her surname was Parker) probably in
Chatham Co NC. They had: James Sellers (Jr.), Robert Sellers, Ruth
Sellers, Isaac Sellers, John Sellers, Laird Sellers, Unidentified daughter
Sellers,
Rachel Sellers, and Young Sellers.
James Sellers (Jr.) married Sarah Booker and their daughter Anne Booker
Sellers married 1804 Samuel Crawford.
He married second Mary "Polly"Sellers in 1829 and they were
divorced. Apparently Mary ran away from home a number of times, so Crawford
petitioned the Tennessee Legislature on 27 Sept 1833 for a divorce. He
presented depositions by Dickson Sellers and James Sellers who supported his
position. Crawford married third Sarah Caughran.
John Sellers (son of James & Patience and married to Elizabeth Hart)
had a
daughter Mary "Polly" who was second wife of Samuel Crawford.
Isaac Sellers (son of James & Patience and married to Judith Johnson)
had
a daughter Mary Ann Sellers, born 17 Nov 1804 and died 12 June 1887.
She
never married.
In 1850 Mary A. Sellers, age 44, is living with her sister Lucy
and her husband E.C. Alexander's family.
In 1860 M.A. Sellers, age 54, is living alone in Maury County. This
gets confusing because Mary Ann had a sister Milly Sellers who also never
married and lived with relatives.
Hope this helps some. Bill Timmons

Thank goodness for Georgia Fletcher who saved me from typing all the
information on Samuel Crawford's petition for a divorce from Mary Sellers
and depositions by Dickson and James Sellers, and James Rutledge.
Thanks,
cuz. I found this information in Jill Garrett's MAURY GENEALOGIST,
Vol.3-1974 and
reprinted 1987 by Polly C. Warren.
Samuel Crawford appears on many Maury Co TN lists with Sellers (juries,
road crews, etc.). He also was captain of a company of Maury men who
served in
the first Seminole War (1818).
Also, thanks to Georgia who pointed out that the record shows Robert
Craig
married Nancy Sellers, not Mary. License 2 January 1832 and Minister's
return 4 January. The cemetery report has her as consort of Robert
Craig. I have
a lot of admiration for Marise Lightfoot & Evelyn Shackelford who wrote
THEY
PASSED THIS WAY in 1964. But they, like we, sometimes make mistakes.
Here appear to be the options: Mary Craig was not a daughter of John &
Elizabeth Sellers (and if she were born in SC per the 1850 census it seems
unlikely
she was a daughter of John); John & Elizabeth had a daughter Jane who
was born
circa 1802 and untraced by me who may have been named Mary Jane (unlikely
since sis was Mary); or Laird Sellers had a daughter, Mary, also untraced
by me. At any rate, it seems that Mary Craig was not Mary Sellers
Crawford
remarried if the children in the 1850 census are hers. Regards, Bill

I did she a Milly SELLERS on one of the land deeds - I wonder if she is

Judith.
Evidently, Mary Sellers Crawford didn't have any kids - the crippled child
in newer minutes indicate it was Samuel's child? Perhaps Mary couldn't have
children - if marriage was consummated? So, still possibilities!
NOW if DICKSON SELLERS was raised by Mary SELLERS CRAWFORDS dad = One of her brothers died ? (She is an AUNT of Dickson Sellers)
I was going to look up Dickson Sellers age =

NOW if James SELLERS sister (1/2 sister-same mother) was Anne Booker

The Daniel Booker born 1755 /1782 who had daughter Annie 1782 who married
Samuel Crawford, etc.
This Daniel BOOKER had sister Patience.
This Daniel BOOKER is supposed to be son of John Booker died 1761 and
Patience died 1763/4 , both Orange Co, NC, which Chatham Co was made
from. My
extractions of this will shows wife, Patience, heirs, James, Patience.
But if Daniel Booker was born 1755 and parents died in 1761/1763 - Someone

I don't remember when I got Williams Sellers Will but it was in the Will

info.

Georgia, thanks for message about Mary M.D. Sellers. I believe you
are
absolutely correct in that William Sellers probably married 4 times.
Mary
M.D. surely was his first wife. It is likely only Sellers related to
Isaac
were buried in the Timmons cemetery. Mary M.D. is buried next to
Patience
Sellers who (except for two unidentified graves) is next to Isaac who is
next
to Judith. This section has Sellers family. The tombstone reads
Mary M.S.
Sellars born January 7, 1847, died October 7, 1865, age 18 years 9 months.
Often overlooked is the following inscription "and her little infant
daughter
Laura Ann Sellers born April 15, 1865 Aged 3 months & 27
days." So Laura
Ann
died in August and Mary in October probably from complications of birth
delivery. Mary and William Sellers started their family soon after
marriage
(4 July 1864).
It could be that Anna Brown who married William Sellers 12 March 1868 was
Matilda Ann Brown. I don't have easy access to the 1860 census but will
put it on my list of "to do." Best wishes, Bill

Bill and all,
Here is my supporting evidence about William Sellers, son of James Y.
Sellers, son of Isaac Sellers and Judith Johnson.
William Sellers married Mary D. Sanders on 14 July 1864. I think
she is
the Mary M. D/S Sellers buried in Timmons Cemetery.
William Sellers married #2 Anna Brown on 12 March 1867, Maury County,
Tennessee.
William Sellers married #3 Mary L. Oakley on 28 December 1872, Maury
County, Tennessee.
William Sellers married #4 Mary R. White on 05 January 1880, Maury County,
Tennessee.
1870 Maury County, TN census:
William Sellers 24 M W
farmer
Matilda
27 F W keeps house
Calvin
2 M W at home
Isham [April]
1/12 M W
1880 Maury County, TN census:
William Sellers 34 M W
crippled
Mary
R.
26 F W
Willie
1 M W
A. E. T. Oakley 53 F W
TN, VA, VA mother-in-law
(Mrs. Oakley is probably his former mother-in-law, who still lives with him
even though he has just recently married Mary R. White in 1880; Willie, age
1, would be her grandson)
1880 Maury County, TN census:
Gilbert
Brown 47
Jane
49 (sister
Collie Sellers
12 nephew
Collie Sellers would be Calvin Sellers and living with his uncle, a
brother
to Matilda Anna Brown, who probably died 1870-1872.

Below is some info I got out of your family history, and I am interested in
Jethro Brown Cathey -- who is likely to be the one listed below.
Do you know what this is referencing?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
E. T. Jackson (see below)
WHO is this WILLIAM SELLERS???(msh)
1819
"
David Hines dec'd sale = John Sellers
1820
"
Jethro Brown dec'd sale = Wm Sellers, Bynum,
Chandler, Pleasant Crow, Sam Crawford, Micah Brooks, Wm Craig
My great grandfather was directly from Tennessee, but he was a descendant of
one of two Cathey brothers (I believe) who came to Virginia in 1700s from
Scotland or Ireland. One of these brothers was sent to North Carolina as
the
king's magistrate, and it was either his son or grandson who married General
Rutherford's daughter (the General of the Revolutionary War. This
son-in-law
(a Cathey) died. Gen Rutherford was given a land grant in Duck River, TN
area and he took his family (including his daughter who was the wife of the
Cathey who died). Jethro Brown Cathey (my great grandfather) is of that
lineage.
I have very little info, and the above is sketchy.
Thanks for responding to my inquiry.
GRANMIMS, Thanks, I didn't answer your question too good.
BUT, were YOUR CATHEYS in MAURY CO, TN?
WHERE were they in NC before they came here?
WITH this possibility of an Older connection. - Would help prove some
families?
