SELL FAMILY
==========
JUNE 2006
Hi:
I have submitted a test to FTDNA for analysis. My family name is SELL (and it
was SELLEN/ZELLEN when the immigrant came to Germantown, PA in 1685). There
is some question if the ZELL families in Lancaster County, PA circa 1730-1750
are related to the SELL's. Also there were ZELL families in the Philadelphia/Chester
County, PA areas in the early 1700's. Our family genealogy group (The CELLE
Family) has researched quite a few of these families.
My question is, should I ask to join your SELLERS surname group, based on our
SELL name? We have never found ANY connection with the SELLER/s families.
Thanks,
Richard (Dick) Sell

DICK, very interesting. I want our SELLERS group to think and respond also.
Do you have a family chart/page you can send or direct us to? =
SELLEN/ZELLEN is picked up as SELLER/ZELLER in old documents.
Don't know if I found or looked for SELL in old documents and found proven to
same SELLERS families?
Newer Census sometimes find a couple SELLS that have proven to be SELLERS.
Does the SELL family group have a message board? dna group?
Immigrats with this name?
IF you have already submitted your dna test, you wouldn't need to submit to
another group. FT shares results with ALL surnames and sends to us if close
match.
When you receive results, you could send to us and we could check it with our results and post perhaps.
Wheres the CELLE family come in and how?
Thank You for sharing info/ideas.

Will attach below..., but it is rather awkward (also in .pdf). I don't know
how else to send 10 generations.

I do not know of any connections. Our Sellen/Zellen line was purely German,
or perhaps a bit Dutch, from Krefeld in 1685.
Newer Census sometimes find a couple SELLS that have proven to be SELLERS.
We have SELLS, but they are also from the 1685 immigrant Hendrick Sellen (one
of his sons used Sells.)

Web site: http://thefamilycelle.homestead.com/Celle/html. No DNA group that
I know of. The immigrant was Hendrick ZELLEN, by 20 Dec 1685, Germantown (Philadelphia,
PA).

I last week submitted it, but won't be ready for 4-5 weeks. Thanks, I did not
know that.

Will do. I do happen to have a Sellers female on my mother's side, but not
directly back.
Wheres the CELLE family come in and how?
Our main coordinator is Carolyn Cell Choppin, so she started with the CELL
name. She has two theories, one that our Zellen name came from France in the
1400's as a derivative of Celle monks. The other is that the Cell name is just
a corruption/misspelling of the name Sell, in Franklin County, PA in 1800.
Thank You for sharing info/ideas.
