In Reply to: Charles Landrum Edgefield Co, SC by Tonya Salter of 695
In
Response to the recent post concerning Charles Landrum:
CHARLES LANDRUM was b. abt 1740 in Orange Co., VA, d. abt 1793 in Edgefield
County,SC.
Charles lived in Chatham Co., NC during the Rev. War, later moving to Edgefield Co., SC. His spouse has not been identified although my theory is that her maiden name may have been Sellers.
Charles Landrum has been the focus of my research for some time. There seem to be minimal extant records for him and his family. There is a possiblity that Charles was married 2 times as seems to be the case with many of the colonial Landrum men we study.
The
mentioned Deed Of Gift record for Charles Landrum names his youngest children
only.
This record definitely speaks of other children who were unnamed. Some of
these children most certainly appear to be:
SIMON,AMOS,ABNER,ABSOLUM and probably others.
It
has been my theory for many years that the Absolum Landrum who shows up in
census reports for the MS TERR is probably Absolum Jr., son of Charles Landrum.
Evidence strongly indicates that Charles Landrum is the progenitor for many
Landrums in early MS
and ALA including my ancestor;BARNABUS Landrum and his siblings:
Meredith,Mathew,Matilda,Henry,Jesse,Absolum, and others. Some say that
Willis H. Landrum (b.
1805 in TN) may have been a son of Charles of Edgefield, SC but I see no evidence
of Charles being in Tennessee in 1805.
I hope this post brings forth more interest in CHARLES LANDRUM (grandson of
the emigrant John form Scotland)since almost no attention has been given
Charles Landrum by any researchers including Mr. Joel Shedd in his book.
I inadvertantly wrote that "Absolum Landrum JR" was in the MS TERR when I meant to say that Absolum Landrum SR was in early MS TERR.
Best regards,
Kathryn Slatten-DeMarco
