Hi,
I almost deleted this without checking data. I went to your web page and
noted a Howard Sellers,,,and a William Sellers, and
that Alfred was born in Bucks Cnty.. My GGG
grandfather P Henry was born
there,,son of Leonard dying in 1805. P Henry moved
to Franklin before 1800 and his son Leonard moved to Lima OH by 1837. A few
generations later I arrived ,,,1936.
Are we related ?
Regards,
Roger in Las Cruces, NM

This was info I got from Joanna Baker several years ago. She
had been
studying Franklin County for years trying to sort out
Sellers and ? others.
According to her, Henry was the executor of brother John's estate in
Franklin. As I recall, Henry was also the executor of father Leonard's
estate but did not serve because
of the long distance between Franklin and Bucks.

information in a book entitled, "American Revoluntionary Soldiers of

of you. It says:
Joseph
Shirk served as private under Capts. John Rea and John

Letterkenny. He names 11 children: Casper; Fred'k.; Joseph;
Christly; Abraham; Jacob; Peter; Elizabeth mar. John Long;
Barbara mar. Jacob Houser; Christina mar. John Leaman;
MAGDALENA mar. GEORGE SELLERS;
grandson Samuel of son John.

WAR
OF 1812 =
John Culbertson, pg. 746 "History of
Pennsylvania", the chapter by Benjamin
Nead, refers to John as being killed in an Indian attack
Aug. 27, 1756.
Capt. Samuel D. Culbertson is referred to in the same
article as being Capt.
of one of the companies which marched to the relief of
Baltimore in 1814
during the war of 1812-14. His was one of 8 companies
organized in Franklin
County during this war. Four were furnished by Chambersburg
with Green
Castle, Mercersburg, Path Valley and Waynesboro each one.
Hope this is of some help.

Message Board Post:
Something new hit my radar. Ancestry dot com offered up a copy of the US Federal Census Mortality Schedules Index for 1850.
Listed as having died within the past 12 months was one William McNew, Engineer, age 42, who died February 1850, in Franklin Co, PA. He was listed as having been born in MD.
(Cause of death was "Erysipelas", which he suffered for 8 days)
Is this the William McNew who was married to Sarah Sellers? Some of his descendants have been trying to find the date of his death, which was between 1845 (when youngest child was born) and 1850, when the Census shows his wife and family living in Franklin Co.
Does anyone have any info at all on this William? nmcvicker@hotmail.com
In 1854, MESSRS. KELL & KINNEARD started an educational monthly,
called the Tutor and Pupil, which had an ephemeral existence.
DAVID A. WERTZ instituted The Independent in 1858, a handsome andable paper, which attracted much attention for its literary ability,
but sold it in April, 1859, to WILLIAM I. COOK and P. DOCK FREY. Afew months later, namely, on the 7th of October, 1859, they transferred
it to FREY & FOLTZ, who converted it from a neutral into a Republican
paper. On the 31st of August, 1860, it again changed owners, and
MESSRS. WILLIAM KENNEDY and JACOB SELLERS converted it into a Democra-
tic organ, as an exponent of the principles of the DOUGLAS wing of the
party, in opposition to the Valley
Spirit, which supported BRECKENRIDGE.

I have a Henry Samuel
Sellers living in St. Thomas , Pa.( which is adjacent to Antrim Twp.)at the
time you are
looking for. According to the St. Thomas Ger. Reformed Church records, Henry's
wife
was named
Magdalena, and they had 12 children all baptized in the St. Thomas Church
starting in
1811 named;
Henry, George, Elizabeth, Jacob, Samuel, William, Jeremiah, John Andrew,
Daniel,
Mary Elizabeth,
Margaret Ann, Amos Kramer. The Church records show no siblings for Henry and
his parents are
listed only as Leonard and Mrs. Sellers, which leads me to believe Henry was
not
born in
Franklin County. If this tracks with your info, I would appreciate any help you
could give me
to get some
info on Leonard Sellers. He has been my brick wall for a long time.

Dear Steven, I
have been unable to access the probate files of Philip Henry Sellers who died
1834 in
Franklin Co.
His son Michael died 1834 also and his records state that he died possessed of
1/5
part of land in
Antrim. I'm assuming this was the estate of Philip Henry and that he had five
heirs. I
think the
church records are wrong and that Henry was the father of Samuel. The
handwriting is
consistant and
the dates are too far apart for them to be contemporary with the event. Leonard
was
the father of
Philip Henry and thus would have been the grandfather of Samuel. I have also
concluded that
Magdalena was the daughter of Magdalena or Molly Greer and that Christian Koser
was the son-in
law of Henry. John Leonard, another son of Henry married Elizabeth Wenger in
Franklin. I did
not come to this conclusion with no reasons but only because after studying the
available
records for several years it was the only considered answer. I hope I have made
sense.

Per Montgomery

Susanna
Sellers - did Henry live Antrip Twp??
Dec 2004
From ROGER
Ok. Let me try and clarify.
Looking at my notes, the Henry discussed below is my GGG
grandfather, Phillip Henry Sellers. He was born in Bucks Dec 3, 1752 and died
in Franklin in 1834. His brother John also died in same cnty in 1800. Father
was Leonard Sellers arriving as a baby in Phil, PA in fall of 1728. Leonard
settled in Bucks and passed in Aug
of 1805. He was married twice and P Henry was eldest from the first union.
There are tons of other children via the 2d marriage--and only one lady, that I
know of, has really followed the clans of both wives. She does not publish to
web and lives in CA. I have a hard copy of her work that is 1-2 yrs old.
My Leonard was son of P Henry, born in Bucks in 1782 ,and
dying in Allen Cnty Ohio in 1860. His wife Elizabeth Wenger Sellers came to
Ohio with him in 1836-7 in a "conastoga" wagon. She passed much later
in June of 1885. Leonard's birth was recorded in Indian Creek Reformed Church,
Montgomery, Cnty, PA. The Wenger family experts had her married to a different
Leonard Sellers in Franklin Cnty, PA. This was corrected, I'm told, and is
reflected in Wenger history on the net.
P Henry had other children, Michael born 1780, George born
abt 1781, Samuel born Nov 12, 1787, and Mary M born in 1791.
Henry and family probably arrived in Franklin circa 1796. P
Henry was the missing link my father could never discover.
Oddly enough, my wife's mother's family , WEIKEL, can be
traced back to the same area near Indian Creek Reformed Church.
I hope this helps. This was certainly not my day for typing.

Hi again,
To directly answer questions posed: No Phillip Henry in Franklin circa 1800 had only one brother and sister.
I see David's and Jacob's but not directly related to P
Henry. There is a David, son of Abraham (son of Leonard of Bucks and second
wife, Barbara), and a Jacob I find early are from the Phillip Henry who got
this whole thing started by coming to America aboard an English vessel in 1728.
Thanks for all your hard work !!
Roger
Hi,
This was info I got from Joanna Baker several years ago. She
had been studying Franklin County for years trying to sort out Sellers and ? others. According to her, Henry was
the executor of brother John's estate in Franklin. As I recall, Henry was also
the executor of father Leonard's estate but did not serve because of the long
distance between Franklin and Bucks.
I have never tried to get will's or similar documents. I was
just happy to find the link to the Allen Cnty Sellers clan from beyond
Franklin. A lady in MO studying Wenger connect actually provided quite a bit of
old census data from Allen Cnty.
She rightly believed that Elizabeth Wenger married the
Leonard who went to Ohio vice the Leonard that stayed in Franklin.
I have not picked up much data for some time. About twice a
year, a get brief e-mails from distant relatives who have discovered that I
know fair amount about Allen Cnty Sellers.
I even discovered my high school sweet heart was gone via
her brother on the Allen Cnty Ohio family site.
Such is life...

YES, it takes many hours (more hours than money) to Prove

(and a few
years ago, before computers, Many trips, etc, to prove or order these
documents)
HOW many hours/money did the SELLERS that shared the OLD
info with us give WITHOUT all this round around?
AND NONE of our SELLERS today would be where they are today
WITHOUT these OLDER records!
I see a possibility here to research = Michael/Franklin Co,
Pa info , re: MONT CO, PA
still hard to separate these families without more
documents.
SO, it will take me/us Many hours/money to prove this
same family that has maybe ? been
proven? by others?
I DON'T appreciate NOT sharing SELLERS documents.

I have a Henry Samuel Sellers living
in St. Thomas , Pa.( which is adjacent to Antrim Twp.)at the time you are
looking for. According to the St. Thomas Ger. Reformed Church records, Henry's
wife was named Magdalena, and they had 12 children all baptized in the St.
Thomas Church starting in 1811 named; Henry, George, Elizabeth, Jacob, Samuel,
William, Jeremiah, John Andrew, Daniel, Mary Elizabeth, Margaret Ann, Amos
Kramer. The Church records show no siblings for Henry and his parents are
listed only as Leonard and Mrs. Sellers, which leads me to believe Henry was
not born in Franklin County. If this tracks with your info, I would appreciate
any help you could give me to get some info on Leonard Sellers. He has been my
brick wall for a long time.

Dear Steven, I have been unable to access the probate files of Philip Henry
Sellers who died 1834 in Franklin Co. His son Michael died 1834 also and his
records state that he died possessed of 1/5 part of land in Antrim. I'm
assuming this was the estate of Philip Henry and that he had five heirs. I
think the church records are wrong and that Henry was the father of Samuel. The
handwriting is consistant and the dates are too far apart for them to be
contemporary with the event. Leonard was the father of Philip Henry and thus
would have been the grandfather of Samuel. I have also concluded that Magdalena
was the daughter of Magdalena or Molly Greer and that Christian Koser was the
son-in law of Henry. John Leonard, another son of Henry married Elizabeth
Wenger in Franklin. I did not come to this conclusion with no reasons but only
because after studying the available records for several years it was the only
considered answer. I hope I have made sense. Joanna
