Hi everyone,
Since someone mentioned Okla, I thought I would share this website. Among a lot of other records, it does have marriage licenses and I did find the one for Claude O Sellers and Mary Gertrude Harston(their spelling). in Tx Co., Okla. which is in
southwestern Okla.

===
For Oklahoma, be sure to restrict the dates to between 01/01/1880 to 01/01/1940 or so to cut it down to mainly marriage records. It shows which counties
have released the information, as not all have yet.

Most of the pre-1900 marriages are included in the index for Arizona, Idaho
and Nevada. Many counties for those same states have been extracted into the
1930’s and some, much later. A significant number of marriages from selected
counties in California, western Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Utah, eastern
Washington, and Wyoming are also included. Very early marriages (1700’s) in
New Mexico are currently being added. For more details, see "List of
Counties by State

records with additional entries being added nearly every working day.

Hi, everyone.
Actually, in the 1900 census ya'll are talking about, this family was in the area that became NE Okla. They were in the Cherokee Nation which was bordered to the west by the area for the Osage tribe(now called Osage County). The Cherokee Nation had two little chunks for other tribes. I don't believe that the panhandle of Okla was ever in 'indian territory' And the areas for native americans kept shrinking. It originally included a lot more than just most of Oklahoma.
Sorry for the history lesson but it seems that most people who are not from Okla, think that all of Okla was and is 'indian territory' lol There are a lot of us still here and proud to be from 'Land of the red man' Oklahoma.

Indian Territory
Indian Territory, in U.S. history, name applied to the country set aside for Native Americans by the Indian Intercourse Act (1834). In the 1820s, the federal government began moving the Five Civilized Tribes (Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, and Chickasaw) of the Southeast to lands W of the Mississippi River. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 gave the President authority to designate specific lands for them, and in 1834 Congress formally approved the choice. The Indian Territory included present-day Oklahoma N and E of the Red River, as well as Kansas and Nebraska; the lands were delimited in 1854, however, by the creation of the Kansas and Nebraska territories. Tribes other than the original five also moved there, but each tribe maintained its own government. As white settlers continued to move westward, pressure to abolish the Indian Territory mounted. With the opening of W Oklahoma to whites in 1889 the way was prepared for the extinction of the territory, achieved in 1907 with the entrance of Oklahoma into the Union. See Oklahoma.

1918 Worldwide Influenza Epidemic
The fall months of October and November would see over 300,000 causalities,
and in all, killed over a half million Americans in a ten month period. Worldwide,
more than 50,000,000 people died. Many of our Oklahoma families were
very poor during this time and little or no records are available for those
that died during the epidemic. Many, many unmarked graves resulted from this
epidemic because families were poor and could not afford a stone.

As I was getting ready for work this morning, I
caught part of a
depressing broadcast,
which I thought I should share with you, in case you haven't heard it
already. It seems that a
Shawn Sellers is about to be executed on February 4 in OK. He will
be the first man in forty
years to be executed for a crime committed at age sixteen. I didn't
catch it all, but I believe that
he killed three members of his immediate family. Don't know how old
he is now, either, but he is
a young balding man. Newscast indicated that while the age at which
he committed his crime
bothers some people, he has exhausted his appeals (some slim hope of
clemency) and is likely to
actually proceed to execution. Story for this story, but....

Marie: I have found a reference to a John W. Sellers, m. Thelma Bowles
bef. 1889. I do not believe that I am related to this Sellers.
There is
no other Sellers information given.
(ADD ON =I need to correct my estimate
of the date of the marriage between a John W. Sellers and Thelma
Bowles. They probably were married in the early 1940s, not
"bef. 1889"! rh)
This information is from Brumfield, Alice Mae, "Descendants of
Frederick Shore and his Wife, Barbary," self-published, 321 Virginia
Drive, Yadkinville, NC 27055, 1993, 467+ pp., on p. 50b.
"Thelma lived in Oklahoma most of her life. When she and her
second
husband, Herbert Edward Shores, retired, they moved to Alma, Arkansas.
Thelma (Bowles) Sellers Shores and her husband, Herb, were still living
at the time of a Johnson/Ellison/King family reunion held at Shores Lake,
Franklin County, Arkansas, in 1996. Ms. Brumfield attended that family
reunion."
There is no Sellers descendants or ancestors information given. There
is considerable Schor/Shore/Shores ancestral information given -- back
to the early 1700s and late 1600s.
Hope this helps someone in the Sellers gang.
A Rewarding New Year to All.

Jean Paul MOORE, son of Edgar Ainsworth MOORE and Marcella FITZGERALD, was
born 25 Nov 1935 and is married to Kay SOLLARS and they have two sons:
Paul Ainsworth MOORE and Frank Southard MOORE.
Note: Jean Paul MOORE is an adopted child of Edgar Ainsworth MOORE
and
Marcella FITZGERALD.
Hi Marie:
"Edgar Ainsworth MOORE, fourth child of Edgar Allen MOORE and Jessie
AINSWORTH was born 23 May 1907 at Skullyville, Indian Territory. He is
a

Obviously, Edgar and his wife have gone on. Since they were in
Indian

That's all the information I have, sorry to say.

In 1900, in Ok. Territory, I have posted all the records I found in
the
Chickasaw Nation for what I believe is our Sellers - ages match, places of
birth match the Texas Census records of 1860, 1870.
In ED 183, we have Household 159, family 159 as Jeff D. Sellers, with all
of his children listed, and showing Allen Sellers, father, age 74 and James
E. Sellers age 69 living with them.
In ED 166, we find Sellers, John R, married to Liza J. in household 56,
family 59.
Children are James W. age 13, Eva, age 12, Lyla M. age 10, all born in
Indian Territory.
In household 57, family 60, we find Sid Sellers, age 18, born in Texas in
July 1881, father born in Miss, mother born in Texas, which matches with
John R. and Liza J -- so I am pretty sure this Sid is their son. Sid is
married to Clara in the census and this marriage is the farthest back that
Terri Carr's information goes.
