I have a book called Portrait and Biographical Record, Putnam County
1896
which has a write up about a William S. Zeller. The disclaimer in
the book
says the write-ups were returned to the people concerned for approval
before
printing so what is said about them is what they approved.
In brief, he was a partner in an insurance & loan firm
named J.J. & W.S.
Zeller. He was born "near the old Ashenfelter mill", Blanchard Twp.
8 Oct
1865, son of J.J. Zeller and Eliza A Ashenfelt. Lived in the town
of
Gilboa,
Putnam Co. then Ottawa, Putnam Co, OH.
The insurance & loan firm sold fire, life and accident insurance
and in
1894
their business was greater than all the other firms in the county
combined.
[I wonder what happened to their records]
Wm. S. married Ella H. Musser, daughter of Henry and Ella (Hagenbaugh)
Musser on 17 Dec 1890. One daughter Anna T. born 19 Sept 1891.
J.J. Zeller was the Clerk of Putnam Co. from at least 1880 to 1885.
The only other Zeller mentioned in this book was Peter, a carpenter,
who
married a Genevre George.
I have Donaldson and Eastman ancestors in the Continental and Ottawa,
Putnam
Co, OH area. My grandmother, Nora Donaldson was born in Continental
in
1893.
My Catherine Zeller would have been born about 1805 as my great-great
grandmother Chistiana Ann Grove was born on 12 May 1831 and she
wasn't the
eldest. Family tradition says in PA. Her brothers Martin & Joseph
Grove
served in the Civil war, Ohio regiments, with her husband Richard
Kimball
Eastman.
I only just got the info on Catherine Zeller and Adam Grove so haven't
done
any research on this branch.
Hope this helps someone, Sylvia

I've been researching the line of Andreas (Andrew born 1805) ZELLERS
who
emigrated
from Germany bet 1805-1839. He appears on the census in Putnam
Co, Ohio as
SELLERS
and ZELLERS in 1850. He married Catherine HENDERSON and died
in 1852 of
cholera.
They had 6 children. He was from a town in Germany that I'm
having a hard
time
reading on the cenus form. I have an image file of the word if any
of you
can help
me read it. I'm particularly curious if any of you know where
the primary
locations of the ZELLERS family in Germany around 1800.

Hello Valerie,
My Frederick Zoellers/Zellers/Sellers, came from Homburg, Germany.
This Homburg is in southern Germany by France. He came over about
1820.

FAMILY MAPS OF PUTNAM COUNTY, OHIO, DELUXE EDITION
By Gregory A. Boyd, J.D. 182 pages, with 50 total maps.
The Family Maps series of Land Patent Books are published county by county, state by state, for original settlers whose purchases are indexed in the U.S. Bureau of Land Management database. For the first time, you can locate your ancestor's federal land purchase by simply finding them in a surname index, then an all-name index, which directs you to a map of first-land-owners. And now you can learn who your ancestors' neighbors were! The Family Maps books are a helpful visual reference tool that make your federal lands research easier than ever. There are 3 maps for each of the 15 Congressional townships that make up Putnam County. Each Township has a Patent Map, Patent Index, Road Map, and a Map we call an Historical Map, which includes Waterways, Watercourses & Railroads. The Road and Historical Maps also include the City-centers and cemeteries that can be found at NationalAtlas.gov. There is also a Surname/Patent Index and a Surname/Township Index to help you dive into the right area of the County. Included Appendices identify multi-Patentee buying groups and also list the numerous Aliquot (section) parts you might find. This book is constructed to last with a plastic spiral binding, acid-free paper, and a tough, laminated cover.
