Donna
Sellers Woodcock now lives in Gas City, IN. She frequently writes
to Kentucky Explorer magazine. I sent her a note last fall and this is
part of what she replied:
"My g grandfather Daniel Sellers married Beck Greene in Clark Co, OH."
(Note from Monte, maybe this was Rebecca Greene.)
"Merl
Sellers reporter Cincinnati. Newspaper Sellers is of our line. I
heard he was printing a Sellers book."
What follows is a small chart Donna drew up in her note of 11/29/96.
Henry Sellers, Sr born 1777 Virginia, died 1828 Greene County, Ohio.
Children of above Henry:
John,
born 1797 married Elizabeth Martin
Jacob married Lydia ?
Elizabeth married a Weaver
Henry, born 1800 married Barbara Ohmont (this is Donna Sellers Woodcock's
line.)
Adam
Peter
Barbara married Jacob Nicholas
"Owned
land Augusta Co, VA 1751. Deed land to John,
Peter and Adam 1760
& 1770. John deed land back to Henry, Sr not clear"
(Note
from Monte, I am not sure who Donna is referring to in 1751, since
Henry Sr was born in 1777.)
"Elizabeth
Sellers m
A.H. Henry in Henry Co. VA
Zeller before 1809
Sellers thru Stephen Weaver in Greene Co, OH 1820."
(Note
from Monte, I guess she is referring to the Elizabeth who married a
Weaver.)
So,
there you have my best translation of a rough note from Donna Sellers
Woodcock.
Hope this helps. I would be happy to send a note to Donna in a attempt
to fill in some blanks.

[OHGREENE-L] Jacob Sellers - 1889 obit
XENIA
DAILY GAZETTE AND TORCHLIGHT
WEDNESDAY EVENING - AUGUST 7, 1889
XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY
Jacob SELLERS (colored) was born in Montgomery County, North Carolina
on the 15th day of March, 1817. When he was about 30 years old, he was
joined in marriage with Laura WILLIAMS. They lived in North Carolina
until the troublesome times of 1860, when he resolved to find a home in
the North. They started on the 6th day of November (The day that Lincoln
was elected) they crossed the line and left his native state forever.
Traveling was slow, with all his earthly possessions in a one horse wagon
that had to be stopped occasionally to have his papers examined before he
could go on, so that it was nearly Spring when he got to his friends in
Ohio. In 1874 he became converted to the Christian faith and joined the
Baptist church in Harveysburg and has ever since
been a faithful and
esteemed member. He died after a long sickness on the 15th day of July
1889, leaving a wife and four children to mourn his loss, seven children
having gone before.
In politics he was a strong Republican saying that the party
that had
done so much for his race should have his support.

I recently ran across a statement by a couple of Link family
researchers that Barbara Sellers, wife of Henry Sellers who d. 1829 in
Greene
Co., IL,(Ohio?,msh) was born Barbara Link. She also was married
a second time. Did you
ever run across a Link link?
I've
been on vacation out west and not very active recently. I'm catching up
with your new messages.
Frank
Sellersgen@aol.com
Frank,
Hope the vacation was enjoyable! Hope you had a good time.
Wow ... no, I haven't run across a Link link. If Barbara's maiden name
was Link, then that might possibly clue us in on the earlier mystery where Mary
Eve was remarried to Tobias McGahey after the death of her first husband, Peter
Conrad. Wasn't it stated that Mary Eve and Barbara, wife of Henry
Sellers, were sisters?
If so, would this point to Mary Eve's maiden name also being Link?
I hope I haven't gotten this confused ....

From FRANK
A couple of questions occurred to me relating to the search
for Henry son of
John as I studied Elizabeth Sellers, dau of the Henry
Sellers who d. 1829
Greene Co., OH.
Elizabeth dau of Henry Sellers of Hardy
Co., VA and Greene Co., OH married
twice.
Marriage #1. Henry Alt or Ault in Hardy County, VA on Aug 26, 1810,
marriage performed by Valentine Powers. Henry Alt is found in the 1810 Hardy Co.,
VA census (see Supplement to 1810 census). He died in the fall or winter of
1818 in Greene Co., OH and his will is on file in Greene
Co., OH court.
QUESTION; We
know Jacob Sellers, son of Henry Sellers of Hardy Co., arrived
in Greene Co., OH in 1817. Now his sister and her husband
were in Greene
Co., OH at the time of Henry Alt's death in 1818. How many others from the
Sellers family arrived from Virginia in 1817?
ALSO, in an 1815 Hardy County marriage, Valentine Powers
married Magdalene
Sellers to John Alt. Since Powers was well known as a German
Baptist (Dunkard)
minister, and the second Sellers to Alt marriage is
officiated by him, the
subject of religious affiliation I mentioned before reoccurs.
QUESTION: Are
there two sisters named Elizabeth and Magdalene b. 1790-98 in
any Sellers family in the region we are studying?
Marriage #2: Stephen Weaver in Greene Co., OH on Aug 30, 1820, marriage
performed by Reuben Strong, Justice of the Peace. Weaver is listed as a
widower. I have
not been able to find a census record or death record for him or
Elizabeth Alt Weaver in Ohio.
Elizabeth Alt Weaver's only child (that I can find) was Tena
Alt, who
married Daniel Richardson on Aug 5, 1829 in Greene Co., OH.
Frank Sellers
Sellersgen@aol.com
=========
Jacob Sellers arrived in Xenia Township, Greene Co., OH in
1817, according
to Robinson's "History of Greene County, Ohio."
Jacob Sellers was the eldest son of Henry Sellers of
Hardy Co., VA (see
Henry Sellers will, Greene Co., OH 1829). He's listed as a farmer in the 1820
Greene Co. census, conducted in Feb. 1821, living in Caesar's Creek Township.
He is listed as 26-45 years of age, wife 16-26 and two daughters less than 10
years of age.
He is listed again in the 1830 Greene Co. census in Caesar's
Creek Twp., but
now with a family of six. Jacob Sellers aged 30-40, wife aged 30-40, one
daughter 10-15, and one son and two daughters 5-10.
Jacob Sellers married #1 Nancy Beattie on Aug 26, 1817,
according to Greene
Co., OH Marriage Book A. They were married by Thomas Watson, Justice of the
Peace.
Jacob Sellers wife in his father's 1829 will is named Lydia,
making it
appear he had two wives. There are two references to Lydia Sellers wife of Jacob
Sellers in the court records, confirming the name of his
wife at the time is
correct.

"The History of Greene County, Ohio, 1881" by R. S. Dills (Dayton, Ohio: Odell & Mayer, Publishers, 1881). Xenia was in Greene County, OH, not in PA. The biosketch about John M. Sellers reads as follows:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
John M. Sellers, carpenter, Xenia, was born in the year 1824. Is a son of Jacob
S. and Susan Sellers, who were both born in Warren County,
Ohio, and had a family of seven children, Henrietta, John M., Lucinda, Elizabeth,
Cynthia, Newton, and Jane S. John, the subject of this sketch, was married,
in 1846, to Miss Olive Holcomb, by whom he had two children, both daughters;,
Millie, the eldest, who died in her twenty-first year, and Clara, now living
with her parents. He enlisted in Company H, Ninety-Fourth Ohio Volunteers, in
1862, and had a taste of battle at Tates' Ford, Kentucky, and after many long
and tedious marches, was discharged in November, 1862. Received a common school
education in Warren County, Ohio, where he spent the principal portion of his
life. Removed to this city in April, 1852, where he has since remained. A portion
of the time he was engaged in the grocery business, and the balance of his life
has been spent at his trade. By his faithfulness, and ! strict attention to
business, he has gained a full share of patronage from the people of this county.
He has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for twenty-six years,
and is today one of the influential men of the town.

FROM Monte

(Note from Monte, maybe this was Rebecca Greene.)
"Merl Sellers reporter Cincinnati. Newspaper Sellers is of our
line. I
heard he was printing a Sellers book."
What follows is a small chart Donna drew up in her note of 11/29/96.
Henry Sellers, Sr born 1777 Virginia, died 1828 Greene County, Ohio.
Children of above Henry:
John, born 1797 married Elizabeth Martin
Jacob married Lydia ?
Elizabeth married a Weaver
Henry, born 1800 married Barbara Ohmont (this is Donna Sellers Woodcock's
line.)
Adam
Peter
Barbara married Jacob Nicholas
"Owned land Augusta Co, VA 1751. Deed
land to John, Peter and Adam 1760
& 1770. John deed land back to Henry, Sr not clear"
(Note from Monte, I am not sure who Donna is referring to in 1751, since
Henry Sr was born in 1777.)
"Elizabeth Sellers m
A.H. Henry in Henry Co. VA
Zeller before 1809
Sellers thru Stephen Weaver in Greene Co, OH 1820."
(Note from Monte, I guess she is referring to the Elizabeth who married
a
Weaver.)
So, there you have my best translation of a rough note from Donna Sellers
Woodcock.
Hope this helps. I would be happy to send a note to Donna in a attempt
to fill in some blanks.

[OHGREENE-L] Jacob Sellers - 1889 obit
XENIA DAILY GAZETTE AND TORCHLIGHT
WEDNESDAY EVENING - AUGUST 7, 1889
XENIA, OHIO
GREENE COUNTY
Jacob SELLERS (colored) was born in Montgomery County,
North Carolina
on the 15th day of March, 1817.
Traveling was slow, with all his earthly possessions in a one horse wagon
that had to be stopped occasionally to have his papers examined before
he
could go on, so that it was nearly Spring when he got to his friends in
Ohio. In 1874 he became converted to the Christian faith and joined the
Baptist church in Harveysburg and has ever since been a faithful and
esteemed member. He died after a long sickness on the 15th day of July
1889, leaving a wife and four children to mourn his loss, seven children
having gone before.
In politics he was a strong Republican saying that the party
that had
done so much for his race should have his support.
