Regarding the Sollars/Sellars/Sellers of CLARMONT CO., OHIO:
Letter from Josiah Records (son of Labon and Nancy Sollers Records) which
was mailed from Bracken Co., KY to Isaac Sollars in
Louisiana:
"In the last two years (what happened to family)... We are all well.
Our
grandmother, Elizabeth (Blackmore Sollars Ward) departed
this earth 1823. My father (Laban Records), sister, Elizabeth, and
my wife
in same season (departed this life)... left me with four
small children near mouth of Cumberland River... Through Providence...
got
back to friends and have my second wife... last October
(my) oldest son died... (I'm) now living near Neville, Ohio (Clermont Co.,
OH)... (my) brother and sister near me... was with Uncle
Sam (Fayette Co., OH) and all well. Aunt Polly (Buchanan) all well
and
doing well. Perkins same.
Lyons near Ft. Harrison, Ohio."
Isaac died intestate, Nov. 8, 1830, his nephew, John Sollars, was appointed
administrator of his estate. Samuel Sollars, Isaac's
brother, and cousin, Joseph Blackmore, were surities of $1400. Benjamin
Rodgers, William Campbell, and Alexander Smith were
appraisers. This was duly recorded in the Washington Court House, court
house in Fayette Co., OH where Samuel Sollars and son, John,
Reside. Samuel traveled to Moscow, Clermont Co., OH to get the children
of
his deceased brother. On Nov. 11, 1830, Alexander and
Martha Sollars, minors over 12 and 14 years of age, respectively, chose
their Uncle Samuel Sollars as their legal guardian. The court
likewise appointed him guardian of Lucy, Julia, and Ruth Sollars.
In behalf of his Uncle Isaac's estate, John made a number of trips in
the
settlement of said estate. One such trip was made to
Natches, Mississippi "where goods, etc., had been left." He received
$56.50 for said goods, Etc. The trip took 69 days at a cost of
$69.00 (1 dollar per day). He made three trips to Moscow, Ohio and
two to
Mount Pleasant.
It is thought that Isaac's children may have returned south, perhaps to
their mother's relatives. Julia Anne Reader, 23, b.Louisiana,
and her son, John O. age 2, are in the home of Elizabeth Train Sollars
in
the 1850 Census. The records of the court spell the
children's names as SELLARS.

I believe that was the $56.50 receipt was for for goods Isaac had left
in LA, that were then sold by John. The trip took 69 days at one dollar a
day expenses so it proved a lost venture, as John billed the
estate of his Uncle Isaac for $69.00 in the settlement of his estate.
Can you imagine taking 69 days to and from Ohio to Louisana today!.
Isaac and Patsy had
Alexander Buchanan Sollers - 02 Jul 1815
Martha Sollars - 1816 LA
Julie Anne Sollars - 1826 LA
Lucy Anne Sollars - 1828 LA
Ruth Jane Sollars - 1829 LA
It is believed that Patsy died giving birth to Ruth.

Marie, How long you known me - I fully understand your interests as
they are no different than my
own...Check my new Webpage and the Isaac Sollars branch. I think you wil
find all you are looking
for. I'm hear if there are any other questions.
Incisently, do you have any informatiom on the noted Mississippi riverboat
Captain Isaac
SELLERS. It has been a number of years since I came across him, and I
likely have notes in my
written material on him, but at present cannot locate them. If memory serves
he did some writing and
used the nom de plume "Mark Twain" years before Samuel Clemmons used it.
Isaac captained a
paddle wheeler up river and died someplace along the way and upon return
of his craft to New
Orleans (I believe) there was not a horn, whiste or bell in the city that
did not ring out in his memory.
He must truly have been a highly thought of man of his times! This
I found while trying to locate our
Isaac Sollars (1786-1830) son of Isaac and Mary Blackmore Sollers.
If you have anything on the Captain, I'd sure like to read it.
Samuel Sollars' home he built in 1820, still stands in Fayette County
just north of Washington Court
House. Sand stone and shale I believe and very cool inside on the hottest
day of summer - A spring
still flows out back there on Paint Creek. In the barn I found a beam
underneath where the cattle
would take refuge from the sun. It is where he carved his name and the
date. They built the barn first
and lived in it until the house was completed. If not so already,
it should become an historic site to
be cared for for future generations. Again, I hope I have helped
some.
