Subject: Re: [STEWART] Loyalist Stewarts
Hi Rae,
I did a quick search for you and came up with this list for Loyalists
volunteers in NC. Note: at the bottom it says refugees...perhaps the John
Stewart listed as a Sergeant was your ancestor. He seems to be the only
John Stewart listed. The website address is:
http://members.aol.com/HoseyGen/NCLOYAL3.HTML
There should be loyalist or U.E.L. (United Empire Loyalist, as we call them)
records in Nova Scotia. A few websites make reference to lists so check
through www.google.com 's search engine and see what comes up. Also have
you seen John's tombstone? It was the custom to put the U.E.L. after the
person's name to show they had been loyal. In Canada it was an honourable
title many Loyalists were proud to attach to their names. Certainly as you
say it would have remained part of any family's oral history as it was a
source of pride for many. There are or were Loyalist societies in Canada
and perhaps they could help your search too. I hope this helps.
Good hunting!

Hi,

I am looking for Abel Sellers who married A. (Anna or Agnes-?) McMasters.
I believe they were both born in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, and died in

[CAN-NS-GUYSBOROUGH] MacQuarrie
My great grandfather Alan Alexander MacQuarrie was born 16 May 1942 in Guysborough, NS and died 26 January 1899 in Southborough, MA
His father was Donald MacQuarrie and his mother Mary MacLeod but that is all I know of them.
He married Annie (Nancy) Stuart Roberson, 7 May 1877. She was born 20 March 1839 in Stillwater, NS and died 20 January 1892 in Southborough, MA
Her father was James Robertson, born 1785 Sterling, Scotland, to James Robertson and Jean Sellers. His date of death unknown,
Her mother was Abigail Jessie Stuart, born 1800, Inverness, Scotland, date and place of death unknown.
Annie had a sister, Jane who married a Donald MacQuarrie (perhaps Alan's brother) and a sister Isobel who married a Norman Gunn I believe.
Pictures of the James Robertsons and Alan MacQuarries can be seen on the Yahoo MacQuarrie group site. http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/macquarrie/photos/browse/fcef
I am looking for information on Mary MacLeod, Donald MacQuarrie and other children of the Robertsons as well as their death dates and places of burial.
