Joshua Meilton lived in Arkansas, but the census 1900
(Johnston Co) NC, says he was born in Mississippi.
Jane Sellers Childers always talked about him being stranded
and that soldiers had to get back anyway they could. He md
Jane Sellers April of 1865. worked for her Father- in- law a
Sellers from N.C. When he had enough money he took his family
and went West. . The family moved West and they stayed 1 or 2
years (may have been more) and then moved back to
Smithfield/Selma NC for the rest of his life. As a child Dora
Lee Childers talked of going back over the Mississippi on a
barge. They went to Johnston County NC (Smithfield area to
stay). Sometime in the late1880's Joshua and Jane decided to
move to Smithfield, NC.
They lived in Johnston County
sometime after the Civil War
until 1930's
Joshua Meilton Childers name: the family called him M.J., His
tombstone says M.J. Childers called: M.J. in the 1880
Census
(South Smithfield, James in the 1900 West Selma), Joshua
in
the 1910 census -Smithfield Township.
One census has
him listed as James
He is called "Jim" in the newspaper article
mentioned above.
J.M. Childers served in Company A
of the 38th Arkansas
Infantry, and there was a J.N. Childers in
Company C of the
2nd Mississippi Infantry Joshua Meilton was born
December 26,
1844 (?) The Bible says 1944 and the census
says 1942.

Maudie W. Ward ,93 of Route 3,Kenly, NC Mrs. Maudie Wilkerson
Ward of Route 3, Kenly died Tuesday following a period of
declining health. Mrs. Ward, 93, was born in Arkansas.She was
the daughter of the late Rueben and Fannie Childress
Wilkerson. The funeral was held at 3 o'clock Thursday
afternoon in the chapel of Gizzard Funeral Home in Kenly. The
Rev. Jimmy Barfield officiated. Burial was in Kenly Cemetery.
