TAYLORS BRIDGE COMMUNITY
The community of Taylors Bridge, located about halfway between Clinton and
Harrells in lower Sampson county, was one of the earliest-settled areas of
the county, with pioneer families living there as early as the 1740s.***  The
first settlers of the area were Edmond Matthis, William Johnson, William
Robinson and John Register, followed by members of the Peterson, Knowles,
Vann, Boney, Merritt, Pearson, Powell, Herring, Rogers, Bryant, Ezzell,
James Murphy, Ward, Sellers, Parrish, Fryar, Williamson and Bass families. .

Matthew PRIDGEN land:

Grant, 300 acres, 17 May 1754 - Garland-NE quadrnt (now Sampson County).

Purchased, 100 acres, 9 July 1757, from Samuel Sellers, ditto.
Purchased, 160 acres, 25 October 1760, "on Clear Run," from Obediah
Lasiter (now Sampson County).
Grant, 200 acres, 4 December 1765 - Rose Hill-SW quadrant (now Sampson
County)
Grant, acreage not shown, 24 September1789 - Rose Hill-Sw quadrant (now
Sampson County)
Grant, 600 acres, 20 May 1809, Rose Hil-SW quadrant (now Sampson County)

Based on Matthew Pridgen's first grant, 1754, he had to have been at
least 21 years old, putting his birth about 1733 plus or minus .

Was this Matthew Pridgen a brother of William PRIDGEN (1732-1855)????
