BUD L. SELLERS
WHITEVILLE - Mr. Bud
Lawrence Sellers, 89, of 798 Sellerstown Rd.,
Whiteville, died Monday
in Duke Medical Center following a brief illness
with a massive
stroke. He was born in Columbus County, the son of the late
W.P. and
Pearl Sellers. He was a loving father and husband, married for 63
years to Lola Godwin Sellers until her death, May 23, 1994. He was
also
preceded in death by a son, Eugene Sellers.
Mr. Sellers was a retired farmer and was known as the
"Boiled Peanut
Man"
in the community for 50 years. He
formerly worked at the shipyard at Camp
Lejeune. For the last 20
years, each year on his birthday, he stood on his
head on the vertex
of the rooftop of his home. He was often described as an
89-year-old
man with a 55-year-old mind and body.
Funeral service
will be conducted Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Peacock's
Chapel
In The Pines by Rev. J.P. Jones and Rev. Mitchell Smith. Interment will
be
in Columbus Memorial Park.
He is survived
by three daughters, Annie Mae Fowler of Chadbourn,
Marjorie Lohr of
N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and Mona Faye Sites of Little River,
SC; three
sons, Jesse K. Sellers of Little Mountain, SC, Sherwood Sellers
and
Johnny Ray Sellers, both of Whiteville; a brother, Robert Sellers of
Whiteville; two sisters, Eva Pierce of Whiteville and Pet Kirtman of
Greensboro; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 4
great-great-grandchildren.
The family will
receive friends Wednesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Peacock's
Chapel In The
Pines.
