Just found the following information from a social security
application of
one
of the children in this family group. Sorry I don't have a county
in GA;
I've
tried a url I have where I can type in a town & state, but I come
back with
nothing for HOMER BANKS, GA.
Does anyone have a gazateer?? Since they
moved
to Anderson County, S.C., it could be
a nearby county, such as Floyd Co, GA
or
surrounding area.
My mother always spelled this family name as SELLERS, but this was what
I
found:
WILLIAM SELLARS, b ? 1850 - 1880 (?GA)
m. "SUSIE" WARD, (b GA?), Their children:
JANIE (JANE) SELLARS, b 14June1898 in HOMER BANKS,
GA
married Polk Arflin, died February, 1983.
TIMA LUCILLE SELLARS, b April1900, married Henry Grady Phillips
JOHN SELLARS (spouse Beluh), b ?
OSCAR SELLARS, b ?
IDA LOUISE SELLARS, b ?
MAUDE SELLARS, b ?
CHESTER MARIE SELLARS, b ?, married Will Ballard
This family group moved from "Homer Banks," GA
to the Anderson or Abbeville
County area of South Carolina (at one time called "the Old Pendleton
District," where most of them remained & had families of their
own.
Anyone recognize name(s) or places?
Thanks,
msgcooper@aol.com

I know that most of the children of this family (if not parents - haven't
found on census) moved to either the Abbeville or Anderson Counties
(counties
neighbor), of South Carolina. Some family members past this point could
still
be living, hesitant to post further info..... Would
love to find some
connection out there!!!
Can anyone tell me who is the father of my first Conrad .. John
Sr., or
the
1st Conrad????
I accumulated a lot of census information just today researching this
line
-
more in later, less earlier as I narrowed in (of course). Will
post
seperately so will not be so long.... I'm sure some are cousins,
some not;
maybe it'll help someone else?

DON, Thank You very much for your help and patience. This John H.
SELLERS
born
5-12-1848 GA appears to be the son of CONRAD SELLERS in 1850 HABERSHAM
CO,
GA
- MSG'S relation. And sounds like he lived in Appling Since
1907 AND in
1916
and these people from Habersham Co, knew him and some or all
were in
service
with him = GEO W. GRANT, O.J. REYNOLDS and W.R.C.BEARD
1916 Appling Co, GA, these people knew him = A.F.BYRD and G.F. MILTON
Thanks for sharing Don. marie, iowa

under
Civil
War
Pension Records a document from Appling County, Ga dated 28 Oct

Hi Marie, Don, Bill & other Sellers researchers:
It looks like the above JOHN H. SELLERS was in fact my great-great
grandfather. I believe that he was born in Habersham County,
GA and later
moved to Baxley, Appling County, Georgia. (I understand that
he died
there as
well.) I had no idea there was a civil war record out
there to search
for;
thank you so much Don! I viewed the record available on line,
but I
wonder if
this is the complete record - does anyone know if these particular
records
are
available at the National Archives Regional Offices or only thru
the State
Archives (GA to be specific??) I'm within driving distance
of the
National
Regional Office in Chicago; I can definitely check the next time
I can fit
a
trip into my schedule. He applied in Baxley, Appling County,
Georgia, but
stated that he enlisted on the 12th day of May 1864 (16 yrs
old exactly)
in
Habersham County, GA. The first application was denied 30
Oct 1916 - He
was
told he had to have 3, not 2 affidavits/witnesses and needed
to prove the
medical condition a direct result of service. The O.J. Reynolds
and
W.R.C.
Beard listed in the above message were residing still in Habersham
County,
GA
and signed affidavits stating that they also served with John H.
Sellers
in Co
B, 11th (Whiteheads) Regiment of Georgia Volunteers. W.C.
Pirkle and J.E.
Mercer were physicians & were, I think, in Appling County, GA.
The
others,
Geo W. Grant, A.F. Byrd and G.F. Milton, I didn't write down relations
for
in
my notes - probably clerks of court in either Appling County or
Habersham
County, GA. The record on line shows that he reapplied in
Aug 1919 but
only
shows his application and just one affiidavit, from the above same
O.J.
Reynolds. There it ends - surely there is more??
I believe that Don asked what the "H" in John H. Sellers stood for;
I
really
don't know - haven't seen anywhere - but the given name, "Henry"
repeated
in
this family line (& repeated & repeated…) But, I'm
not sure; The "H"
could
very well come from a maternal lines' namesake. Perhaps if
there is more
of a
pension record available, that information is within???
I saw Bill's inquiry on a James Sellers in regards to this line.
I don't
have
all the census reports for each county / state (they sure jumped
around!)
as
I was basically following my direct line. The ones I have
are available
on
the Sellers pages - Haywood County, NC, Habersham County, GA, Banks
County,
GA. Is there a main index page for the "Sellers pages"
where you can
select
a county/state???? I'm sure there is - I just don't have it!
I think
your
James was one born in GA @ 1833? The only James I have in
this line for
sure
was a James Leonard Sellers, born @ 1852 in Habersham County, GA,
son of
Henry Sellers (not my direct line, but brother, or rather, my direct
would
be
Uncle of) & grandson of the Conrad Sellers who marred Artemisia
Prince
(married in Haywood Co., NC, Bond # 000066258, on 24 Aug 1839,
bondsman:
John
Sellers). Do you have any other information on your
James Sellers, born
@
1833 in GA - wife's given or surname, children's names, etc???
In some recent information forwarded to me by another person researching
Sellers in GA, I see that there was also a JAMES M. SELLERS, born
@ 1837
who
married a Jane Roberson. This James Sellers' father was John
Millender
Sellers, b 8 Sept 1813 in Tuttnall County, GA and died 10 July 1888,
buried in
the Sellers Graveyard 5 mile north of BAXLEY, APPLING COUNTY, GEORGIA.
It
looks like John Millender Sellers' father was Samuel Sellers, b
@ 1775 in
Duplin County, N.C. Samuel also had a brother named
John Sellers who
married
a Jane Carter in Bullock County, GA, and a sister, named Penelope
Sellers,
who
married a John Staten in 1794. Samuel, John & Penelope
Sellers were the
children of Samuel Sellers who was born @ 1744 in Duplin County,
N.C.
This
earliest Samuel Sellers was married to Zilpha Sellers (cousin);
marriage
bond
signed by JESSE X SELLERS and Absolem x Mettit; witness was
James
Simpson.
I have not checked / researched my line with the above line, nor
have I
researched the Abraham Sellers listed in many locations as "head"
of my
own
line, but I remember seeing in the Sellers pages or thru a connectable
location(s) thru there, that my "Abraham" was referred
to as Abraham L.
"JESSE" Sellers, and I believe possibly that he may have owned land
in
Duplin
or Sampson County, NC???
I do not mean to infer, positively, connections with/between all
of the
Sellers above; there is much research to be done. But
for those
reseaching
possible connections, please note ALL the counties in N.C.
and G.A. as
possible connections, and do check the Sellers Pages for those already
on
line; then further checks should be done before / after what is
already
there;
I'm sure we'll find surprises! ( Also, I know
it is enough work without
duplicating what is already there!)
I am sorry for being so very long winded, but do hope it helps to
make a
connection somewhere,
Happy Hunting!
