James Moore died at his home near Turkey, then Duplin Co., now Sampson
Co., NC. escendants still lived on the Moore land
as late as 1988. He married Anne Thomson. DAR has his birth as Edgecombe Co., NC. When last in contact(1988) with
terminally ill descendant who lived on James' land, he claimed proof that Joseph Moore was the youngest child of Gov. James
Moore (the first one) of SC. I could find nothing in will or other records to substantiate that claim. However, two of his older
sons came to around today's Wilmington, NC with Roger's land being today's Orton Plantation.
Joseph Moore's will 15 Feb 1753 Edgecombe Co., NC. Anne Hodges Moore's
will dated 22 Feb 1774 and probated Jan
1776 in Martin Co., NC. Halifax was formed 1758 from Edgecombe and Martin formed 1774 from Halifax, so family in all
three counties without ever moving.
Joseph, Jr. married Ann _____ and was shriff of Edgecombe Co and his will
there. Hodges married Mary _____, his will
made 25 Sept 1795 Martin Co., NC and Ezekiel, wife Elizabeth, died 1780 in Martin Co. Unfortunately a fire destroyed the
probate records, so only will book data available; however, some deeds exist. Ann apparently married William McGee and
Martha a Hinton.
Joseph's will names wife and sons Joseph, Hodges, James and Jesse as executors.
Witnesses/testators Gus William, Hardy
Whitmell, William Williams
Anns will names grandson James Moore (parents not named) and daugher Martha
Hinton. Executors sons Hodges and Ezekiel
Witnesses Anna & Martha Highsmith, William Williams.
I descend from James Moore and Anne Thomson's daughter Barbara who married Henry King of Cumberland Co., NC.
Hope the above provides a few clues. My e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org

I'm interested in the William Williams that is noted as witness for the
Moore wills. Have you run across his name before? I have
been trying to trace a William Williams, whose son was Elisha Williams b1746 m. to Sarah Josey. Elisha named a daughter
Elizabeth Norfleet Hunter Williams.
The Hunter name is associated with the Whitmell line and I note that your
messaage indicates a Whitmell as a witness too. Also
the Hinton family ties together with the Whitmell line, both of which have connections to the lengthy Alston family.
We know from a family letter that our William Williams was from Edgecombe
but he or the family was probably originally was
from Pennsylvania and Wales.
His son Elisha later owned family farms Edgecombe and in Warrenton, NC
as well as Franklin County, NC. Elisha's son Josiah
Williams eventually moved the family to Nashville, TN where many of the line married into the Philips family.
If you've run acorss any other references to the William Williams mentioned in your message, would be interested to hear.
I descend from Joseph Moore and Anne Hodges (Ann Moore McGee-Elizabeth McGee Herrinton-Elizabeth Herrington
Melvin-James Melvin-Robert Melvin-Emma Melvin Fisher-Mildred Fisher Hales-Anne Hales Spell-my mother). I also
descend from Moores on my father's side (Jesse Moore-Bright Moore-John Hardy Moore-Bettie Catherine Moore
Martin-Carlie Martin-Lola Inez Martin Spell-Morrison Spell-my father).
Was wondering if you have any info on Jesse, Bright or John Hardy Moore. I was curious about whether this was a different
branch of the same Moores. I found a Jesse Moore who was a descendant of Gov. James Moore, but I don't know if it's the
I do know that Jesse, Bright and John Hardy Moore were all from the Sampson/Cumberland County area.
Any info on them would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
I am looking for information on George Moore who emigrated from Eng. He
was born abt 1632 and died abt 1710. He
married Jane Barecroft/Barcroft in 1661. George had a brother, Thomas, who also came to Am. George was the father of
Magdalen Moore who married Thomas Carter, Jr. of Isle of Wight Co., Va.
