Cynthia or Synthia or Cintha Sellars married a Graves in Montgomery Co., NC,
but moved, with children, to Chesterfield Co., SC after his death during
Civil War. Within her obit, it states she is the daughter of Joe Sellars.
Please help if you have information on Joe Sellars and/or mother, etc.  1850
Census shows her living with Jordan family, possible her sister Rosann or
Rosanna or Rosean?

Looking for info on Joe (Joseph B. ?) Sellers or Sellars, father of Cynthia (or Syntha) Sellers or Sellars and Rosanna Sellers or Sellars. Cynthia found in 1850 Chesterfield Co., SC census, living w/ Rosanna Jordan and husband Lloyd Jordan. Later, she married Benjamin Graves in Montgomery Co. - Randolph Co., NC. He died in Civil War, she moved to Chesterfield Co., SC w/ kids. Her obit lists father as Joe Sellars. Past hint I have is that mother's name is Lillie Sutton. Anyone help?

Glad to hear from you.  Interesting Census record.  It appears that your
Jane Baxter Sellers could be my Cynthia's sister?  The 1840 census has
Cynthia / Cintha living w/ another sister, Rosann or Rosanna or Rosean
Sellars who was married to a Lloyd Jordan (see far below).  Any links on
your information?

Unknown Place, n.C.. The cause of death was Civil War Fatality or shortly
after war. He was buried in No. 2 National Cemetery, Fredericksburg, Va,
Usa.

Benjamin married Cynthia or Syntha Sellers daughter of Joe (Joseph B. ?)
Sellers and Lillie Sutton on 25 Apr 1852. Cynthia was born about 1832 in
Chesterfield Co., S.C.. She died on 26 May 1915 in Chesterfield Co., S.C..
She was buried in Providence Baptist Graveyard, Pageland, Chesterfield Co.,
S.C..

Benjamin and Cynthia had the following children:

William married Mary Emeline Gaskins daughter of John D. Gaskins and Ellen
unknown in 1881. Mary was born in Apr 1859 in Chesterfield Co., S.C.. She
died on 15 Dec 1921 in Anson Co., n.C.. She was buried in East View Cem.,

(1819-1899), with wife "Rosanna"(1829-1897), whom we know was a
Sellers/Sellars. He was a miller like his father; they were landowners and
apparently had considerable commerce with NC through the trading post at Old
Store.

My greatgreat-grandfather, Benjamin B. Graves of Randolph Co., / Montgomery Co., NC married a Cynthia Sellars (or Cynthia or Sinthy or Syntha or Cintha.) of Chesterfield Co.  They lived in Montgomery Co., NC  until BB Graves died during Civil War.  Cynthia returned to Chesterfield Co. with the children, and we can only guess it was to be near her family.  We do know she was living with Loyd Jordan and his wife Rosanna during 1850 Census, and we guess they were sisters, her name is spelled "Sellars".  She is also found with her children in 1870 and 1880 Census records.  Cynthia was born @ 1832  When she died in 1915, her death cert. lists her father as Joe Sellers.  Below I have pasted a quote from James C. Pigg, a notable expert on Chesterfield Co. families.

"Cynthia Sellers is one of those people we have not been able to figure out parentage. However, I figure she is from the Matthew Sellers family. Matthew also lived on Thompson Creek near the area where out more widely known Hardy Sellers lived. Matthew left no will or any other records, but we belive that McCarroll Sellers who moved from Thompson Creek to current day Jefferson area is from this family as well as David Crokett Sellers whose son Levander Jackson Sellers moved near the current day Patrick area from Anson County, NC. Wish I could have been more of a help here, but have not run across anything definitive. " James C. Pigg

I have some Jordans in my Johns family that came from the Thompson Creek are near Providence Baptist church on Hwy. 9. Just wondering if there could be any connection? Miss Powderkeg

Could be.  Problem with this research is that what little official docos that survived Sherman have been reviewed.  "Only" hope is that someone has a family bible or old letters buried in a trunk somewhere.

have you studied the 1880 census on CYNTHIA SELLERS GRAVES son SMILIE listed as a Nephew of June/Jane? SELLERS with a SS Stephen Sellers.

 

Is she Jane Baxter SELLERS that married as second wife to Roland Sellers?

and from memory a ??? Sellers was a witness on her pension file.

 

WE are missing some 1860/1870 census on these famiies, if you have extracted, please send.

CYNTHIA SELLERS GRAVES was living in Montgomery Co., North Carolina in 1860,

with Benjamin Bennett Graves.

 

JUNE SELLERS appears to be the step-mother of the children in 1880 Census.

What conversation I have read on that family, the exact details of JUNE and

late husband are unclear.  I may be wrong.

SO kids born 1842 and before would be STEPCHILDREN of JANE.

SHE was 32 years of age when she married ROLAND SELLERS.

WAS she married to a SELLERS BEFORE?
