Searching for father of this guy. Marcus was born in 1828 in IN. He sometimes went by Lafayette or MDL and was a landowner and country store owner in Champaign Co IL for many yrs. Ha married Rebecca James, sister of my gr-grandfather around 1849. Marcus's mother was Keturah Ransdell Sellers Leedy. I've been trying to find info on Marcus for years without success. Help would very welcome.

Hi Marie,
So glad to hear from you. Here's what I have on Marcus, probably most of which you
already know:

Marcus born 1828 to Keturah Ann Ransdell Sellers, father unknown Sellers. He probably
had a sister Barbara born abt. 1823 Marcus married Rebecca James in 1849. She was a
daughter of Joseph and Rebecca Hathaway James. Keturah was born 1803. In 1829 she
married David Leedy, born in VA and 23 yrs. her senior. His lst wife was Fanny Pemberton
with whom he had at least 9 children. He and Keturah had none. Keturah is buried in
Dunn Cemetery in Somers Twp Champaign Co IL. The land was given by Marcus's wife Rebecca
and the cemetery is now listed as "de-spoiled".0

Barbara married Sanford Wesley Ransdell Jr. They had a child Phebe b 1843 but were
divorced and Sanford married Mary Elvira Irwin 26 June 1846. They had a son John b abt
1849. Sanford and Mary with some other Ransdells moved to CA around 1854. Mary divorced
him in Lake Co CA in 1873. Probably Sanford and Mary had other children born in CA.
Barbara married Seth Anderson 5 Jan 1847. Another researcher told me they are found in
Wayne Co Iowa in 1850 census.

Marcus had a country store in Stanton Twp, Champaign Co IL called Sellers Corners, one
part of which was a post office. Another corner at this intersection had a church and a
school. I believe that Marcus and Rebecca were very well known in that area. I
recognized some of the names listed in the probate records you sent in one of the e-mails
and can tell you who they are another time if you're interested.

Hope you'll write again and we can exchange comments and info. How do you fit into the
Sellers family tree?

MARILYN, thanks.

Letters I forwarded to you are from our SELLERS discussion = proving all

and sending documents on same.

Do you have a copy of MARCUS SELLERS obit?
Do you have a copy of his civil war pension ?

YES, would appreciate side notes on any/all names from probate, etc records
from Champaign Co, IL

Since he didn't have any kids, We have need to trace possible sister Barbara
and her kids and names.

Have you researched the RANDALL/RANSDELL families?

Would you Send what you have proven or have ideas on, so we don't have to
research those same areas, etc.

MARILYN, thanks.
Our group researches mainly Sellers = obtaining and sharing documents that
Prove our SELLERS lines = by county/state.
These are posted on the Sellers web pages for others to help find their
families and share with us.

There are several books written by Sellers families = mainly on their direct
families.
There are several web pages by Sellers families.

I am interested in a small, short, name, date, place on your Ransdell's.=

We do have a James Sellers 1756/1793 and Pamela Randall family in 1838 New
Hampshire . But, no family continued.

HOW did we prove KETURAH as a RANDALL?

I see a CATHERINE SELLERS married 1829 Harrison Co, IN to DAVID LEADY
copy of marriage license? = Mrs or ages?

You say they did Not have kids, can you share the names and Ages of his
kids?
so we can check and see if our Sellers kids living with them, etc.

THANKS for sharing and understanding.

Hi again,
No, I don't have an obit, military records or any documents for Marcus. I
pulled up the
urbanafreelibrary.org site and see that one can order an obit and other
stuff re Marcus
for a fee. I probably won't do that as he's not my direct line anyway. It
is
interesting that there's a James Sellers in Harrison Co IN in 1820 census.
My cousins
and I tried to find some way we could make this James the father of Marcus,
born in 1828,
but just couldn't find any evidence.

Here are the names I recognize on Rebecca's Probate List:
Rebecca's sisters: Anzalitta Meese (I believe the spelling Angelitta is
incorrect)
Malissa Holland

Nieces & nephews, all children of Rebecca's brother Thomas Jefferson James:
Alice Frazier
Adeline Funkhauser
Lizzie James Nicewander
Carrie Kirby
Chauncey James (my grandfather)
George James
Hugh James

I did notice that another name on the probate list is Lafayette Anderson.
This is surely
Barbara & Seth's son. The other Andersons (Mary, Mattie Bell and Melissa)
are probably
his children.

I do have records for the Ransdell family but don't think it would aid you
with Sellers
research. My family has long wondered why Keturah's maiden name was
Ransdell. The
feeling is that she was a cousin or niece of Sanford Jr.'s father, Sanford
Ransdell SR.
Another person that we have looked in vain for is Phebe Ransdell, Barbara &
Sanford's
daughter. You've noted thst she lived with Keturah and David Leedy in 1850
& 1860.
We've searched marriage and death records for a Phebe or Phoebe any last
name and feel
she might have just died sometime after 1860.

Is your discussion group researching for a book?

Marilyn

A Phebe J. Randell married Edward Sparks on 27 November 1859 Vigo County,
Indiana.

She is in the household of David Leedy in 1860 as Phebe Randell, however.

I can't find an Edward Sparks or Phebe Sparks in 1860 or 1870 Vigo County,
Indiana..Perhaps they went to Iowa, also.Maybe Edward died very quickly but
I did not find a remarriage of Phebe Sparks.

MARILYN, could you send us your search results on Phebe Randell, etc.
Did you check divorce/annulments?
IF married and annulled or he died, etc. she may have died in childbirth or
an illness? OR?

Thank you for sharing with us.

Hi again Marie,
I shared everything pertinent that I have. I looked at your Sellers Genealogy page and
see that it is copyrighted, the implication of which I don't know. Anyway, I have
nothing more to share.
