I am looking for information on the oldest brother of William Nathan
Hughes
(Bill). I think he was alive in the 1920's, because my mother
said her
father used to talk about "old Uncle Ander." I don't know
if he wound up
in Dale Co., Henry Co., or Coffee County, AL or perhaps in Jackson
Co., FL.
Here is what I have on the rest of the family, just in case someone
has a
clue:
Still searching for parents or siblings of William Hughes.
One document in his estate settlement gives his middle initial as
A.
William Hughes, b. abt. 1815 m. Priscilla Ann Davis abt. 1833, prob.
Lee
Co.,
GA, (later Randolph). He stated at least once on a census
that he was b.
in
NC. He first appears in Randolph County as early as
1834 in a land sale.
Priscilla Ann Davis Hughes was daughter of Nathan Davis and Mary
Campbell
Carr.
William and Priscilla moved to Henry Co., AL after August of 1859,
but
before
the 1860 census. Their children are:
Andrew J. Hughes (possibly Jackson) My mother remembers her father
referring
to “old uncle Ander
Sarah A. E. Hughes m. her first cousin Lewis J. Rivers
Richard H. Hughes - may have been killed in the Civil War
James K. P. Hughes - may have also been killed in the Civil War
George M. Dallas Hughes - m. Rebecca Guy, moved to Robertson Co.,
TX and
died
there in Nov. of 1890. His family remained in Texas.
Mary A. Hughes m. Evan Butler
William Nathan Hughes m. Nancy Melissa Sellers (these are my ggrandparents)
Harriet Hughes m. Allen Byrd Carter
Wyatt C. Hughes m. Hattie Baxter, they also moved to Robertson Co.,
TX. He
died there in Feb. of 1889 His family returned to Florida.
If anybody can give me any information on any of the above, I would
really
appreciate it.

Subject: [DALE COUNTY] As long as we're talking Joneses...
Since Dale, Henry, Pike and Houston Counties all have practically
overlapped
at one time or another, I'd like to re-post my Jones query:
JONES - Amanda Caroline Jones. The Henry Co.,
AL 1860 census says b. AL
1850 says b. FL on 27 Oct 1825, other Sellers lore says she was
b. in the
Oree (Horry?) dist of SC.
Married Rufus Daniel Sellers bef. 1849 (oldest child b. Jan, 1849)
maybe in
Pike
Co., AL. She is supposed to have had a sister named Tempie, who
married
Rufus
Daniel's twin brother, Wright. This is pretty certainly
confirmed
recently,
and the full name was Susannah Temperance. In the 1850 Henry
Co., AL
census,
a woman named Susannah Jones is living with the Sellers family.
Her age is
68. Also on the
census are William Jones, 21, and Robert Jones, 20, both listed
as having
been
born in FL. I have found a document in Henry Co. of an Amanda
Caroline
Jones
who might be a namesake of my Amanda. She is listed in an
Orphan's Court
report upon the heirs of David G. Jones - February, 1847 as
a minor at the
time. There was also an accounting in Dec 1848. My Amanda
is probably too
old and is also married at the time.
If you have any information on this Jones, I would appreciate it.
