My fourthgreatgrandfather was James WARD the son of Joseph WARD,
could
anyone tell me how he mightbe related to Sarah SELLERS OATS
mother jane
WARD. In a book I have called History of Henry County it
gives Sarah's
father's name only and said she was of Irish-French
ancestry. Does anyone
have more information on the SELLERS ancestry.
I do not have a list of
Sarah
SELLERS siblings, but I do
have the names of her children she had with
William OATS. If anyone
is interested from his Bible Registry.
Le
My Ward line comes through James WARD(1783-1860) and Maranda or
Malinda
Parish. Their child Mary Ann WARD d.b.24/Jun/1822 m: Ephriam
OATES
16/Aug/1849 his father was a first cousin of Governor OATES'S
father
William
who married Sarah SELLERS. That is how I am
related. Mary Ann OATES died
24/Nov/1882. James was the son of
Joseph WARD. Who may or may not be a
brother of Jane WARD
SELLERS.

I am not from a direct descendant of this OATES line
but a collateral
one. William d.b
18/Mar/1798 m: Sarah
SELLERS 12/Feb/1833 d.d.28/Jul/1871 was the first
cousin of my
fourthgreatgrandfather Stephen OATES d.b.1783 or 85 m:
Elizabeth
SHIPP in 1803 or 05. Stephen died on the way to Alabama in 1835.
He is buried in
Sampson County NC.
William and Sarah SELLERS OATS children
were
William Calvin (Governor) d.b.30/Nov/1833 m: 28/Mar/1882 Sarah
TONEY
(1862-1930) they one child William Calvin Jr.(1883-1938)
married Georgia
Saffold one child
Marion OATES
1m: George Leiter of Montgomery
Alabama now I have a list of
their descendants in OATES War
Memoirs, and I will have to get it at
another
time.
John Alva OATES d.b. 24/Dec/1835 d.d.21/Jul/1863. He first enlisted
in
Company A Henry Grays Sixth Alabama, rose to the rank of
Second Lieutenant
and transferred to Company G Henry Pioneers 15th
Alabama to be with his
brother. He suffered from Rheumatism plus hip
problems and was ill with a
fever the day the 15th Alabama assaulted
Little Round Top. Col. OATS
ordered
him to report to a
fieldhospital, but he refused he did not want the men to
think him a
coward nor disgrace his country and uniform. So he entered the
frey
and was mortally wounded within ten feet of his brother. He died the
21st day of July 1863.
Mary Jane OATES 1838-1912 she married
James Benjamin LONG in 1855 and they
had Pocahontus, Dr. James B Jr.,
William Oates, Sarah Elizabeth, and Mamie
Long Thurman Soloman
Amelia Lousie OATES 1840 she died in Polk Co. Tex. I do not know when
yet.
She married
J. THomas Kelly he died 3/Jul/1863 in
Company E 13th Alabama which was
apart
of Archer's Brigade
Pickett's Division Longstreet's Corps. She and Mr.
Kelly
married in 1857
Melissa Ann b. 1842 married a Hickman she is
buried in Headland Eastside
Baptist Cemetery Headland Alabama. Her
father most not have liked her
husband he disinherited her upon the
marriage. Governor Oates took care of
both she and Mary Jane after
Mary Jane became a widow in 1864.
Amanda Elizabeth 1845-1931 married
George Washington LINTON 27/Oct/1867
they are buried in
Hamilton Texas he was born in 1842 and died in 1914. He
served in her
brother's regiment. in the same company with Ben LONG.
Thomas
Carraway 1847-1850
James Wyatt 1850-1915 he married Mattie Solomon in
1881
All of these were born in Pike County Alabama at Catalpa near
Chunnaggee
Ridge.
Two other children are listed in the
OATS Bible Registry but these are
grandchildren of William Sr. and
Sarah SELLERS they are Claudius and Josh.
Josh was born in 1865 and
Claudius in 1867. They are listed on the 1880
census of Pike
County as Governor OATS children.
The Bryant Sholar mentioned in the Henry
County Info, I think that is
another line of mine. He married
Polly Kirkland. Anyway if I am not right
about his wife at least Aunt Martha
Soloman was his daughter, she married
William Lazarus Soloman in 1857 he was
the brother of my
thirdgreatgrandfather John Wesley Soloman.
Our WARD connection between AL and NC doesn't connect =
If we have
kids named WARD born in 1825?
SO Any WARD info appreciated -
Posting OATES info and WARDS info to separate pages by Sender- But, Not
Organized,yet
THANK YOU for ALL help to our SELLERS group-
