The entry states that John HUMEs wife was a
CRAWFORD; however, all of the databases that I have
found state that she was a BARNETT. I used ARIAS and
was able to confirm that John HUME served in the PA
militia from Lancaster County, along with two other
Humes and a couple of Barnetts. I did not have time
to check CRAWFORD. Know that there are some
SELLERS/CRAWFORD lines.

_____Van Blaricum (farmer), 1820, spring.
Within a week or two after the arrival of the McCormicks, John Maxwell
and John Cowan came and built on the high ground near the present crossing
of the Crawfordsville road over Fall Creek, very near the site of the City
Hospital. During the following three months a number of new-comers arrived,
and settled principally in the vicinity, of the River. Those best remembered
are the Davis brothers (Henry and Samuel), Isaac Wilson ('who built the
first cabin on what was afterwards the old town plat in May'), Robert Harding,
Mr. Barnhill, Mr. Corbaley, Mr. Van Blaricum. About the time of the arrival
of the last of this first group of pioneers the State capital located here
by the commissioners appointed by Legislature for that purpose.

I took a look at the census microfilm today and found someting
interesting.
The two John and Mary Sellers families in the 1870 Marion Co., IN census are
the same family. It appears that John Sellers worked in a plow factory as
a
blacksmith and sometime in 1870 they moved, so they were counted twice. The
plow factory apparently was run by a Solomon Beard. Just goes to show how
inaccurate the census information is by comparing these two entries. The
families in the adjacent dwellings were different for both the 3rd and 9th
Ward, so
they definitely moved during the year. Not sure which entry was first. It
appears that the Feb listing is for 1871 and not 1870.

John Sellers was not living with Solomon Beard in the 1860 census, so he was
elsewhere. Also could find a marriage record in Marion or Tippecanoe for the
years 1858-1863.
There is a Will recorded for a John Sollers in Tiipecanoe Co., IN Will Book
9 (1902-1906), Page 113, but the library didn't have thta on microfilm. Could
be Elmer's father maybe.
Thats all I could find.

JIM, thank you!
Did it say who signed or gave info?
We can check for this Scotland fathers birth on census, altho, I believe I have checked all born any where.
JOHN SELLERS states in 1900 his parents were both born OHIO. And it appears he Owned his home, so deed records or probate is possible.
The Birth and Death dates are probably correct which does help confirm for earlier census.
And perhaps Fonda may find Tippecanoe info,
I have some Old Newspapers Obits, but, not ALL listed. The Date does help for checking.
Thanks for helping, marie, iowa

I don't know if anyone was as curious as I was about the cause of death, ie, "Pott's Disease", but it was a new one on me. Pott's Disease was "Tuberculosis of the spine" ...
I guess it shows are far we've come in medicine. Pott's Disease can still be contracted, however, it can be handled in most cases by drug treatment. Surgery is only necessary in a few cases where the spine and/or vertebrae are damaged or if there is spinal compression. Even in the extreme cases, treatment can be for 6 - 12 months. Its certainly not the death knell that it once was ...
