Hi Marie and Frank. I just wanted to send you some tid bits of information
that I found about the Sellers of Bond County.
The Greenville Advocate News. March 2, 1865.
This was given the preferred position on the front page and down
at the bottom was a story of a fatal stabbing between Leonard Sellers of
Bond County and Benjamin Housen of Greenville, generally known as
"Tennessee." They got into a fistic combat and at the conclusion
Housen said he had whipped Sellers and wanted to whip the old man's
nephew, Leonard Sellers and could do so. Sellers kept stepping back
and Housen kept following him up threateningly until in self defense
Sellers fired. Housen placed both hands over the wound which was near
the pit of the stomach and stood a second or two, turned, walked
a few steps and fell on the steps of Hankins Saloon, where he died in five
minutes. At the preliminary trial held in Vandalia, Sellers was
held for homicide. His attorneys, Samuel Stevenson and Tevis Greathouse
secured
a writ of habeas corpus, He was admitted to bail in the sum of $2000.00
for his appearance at the next term of the court.

John LOCKHART came from Maury County, Tenn., and
