Roy Sellers
LeRoy A. SELLERS, son of A.J. and Susan Sellers, was born in Lee County, Iowa,
August 25, 1880 and after a long illness passed away at a rest home near Oskaloosa
April 19, 1961.
When a small boy he moved with his family to Lecompton. From there they came
to settle on a farm in Jefferson County. In 1909 he was united in marriage with
Lena ADAMS of Perry and they made their home on a farm near Oskaloosa where
he lived until too ill to care for himself. He was a member of the Ozawkie E.U.B.
Church and Hays Grange.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Marian STEFFEY of Ozawkie, one granddaughter,
Mrs. Anita KNUDSEN of Topeka, two great-granddaughters, Mona and Linda, one
niece, Mrs. Ruth O'BRIEN of Los Angeles and three nephews Alexander, Arthur,
and William Sellers of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

two sisters, Delia and Maude and a nephew Harold BUSH.
Funeral services were held in the Ozawkie E.U.B. Church with Rev. Lloyd Krutz
in charge. Burial in Fairview Cemetery.

The"A.A. & Jane" listed as the parents of Jane, Vesta
Ann, and George were Absalom Alexander Sellers and
wife Jane Harbison.
Barbara/Barbary Sellers was Absalom's mother. James
Sellers, husband of Barbary Sellers, died prior to
1850 while he and Barbara were living in Pleasant
Ridge Township. Barbara then moved "next door" to
live with son, Absalom. Interesting that James'
burial or gravestone isn't listed. I'm 99.9% certain
he was buried there was well.

I don't know if this matters for the cemetery records,
but I wonder if the list age for "Jane dau of A.A. &
Jane" is incorrect. Jane appeared on the 1850 Census
living in the household of her parents, Absalom
Alexander and Jane Sellers, as age 14. This would
make it seem that her listed age of "4 years" for the
cemetery record would be incorrect.
Additionally, the 1850 Census was to list all persons
living in the household as of June 1, 1850. Jane was
clearly listed on October 2, 1850, as living in the
household as of June 1, however, the cemetery record
shows that she died nearly a month earlier on May 8,
1850?
I know that none of these records mentioned are
perfect and even mistakes are made on gravestones.
But, this is more than a bit weird.

It's entirely possible for the cemetery listing to be incorrect. Sometimes
when reading old headstones names, dates, inscriptions are hard to read. It
has been my experience that a "1" on old headstones will fade in time and
easily left out of the age or date. Sometimes a "4" will be mistaken for a
"1". Best thing to do is visit the cemetery and make a rubbing or use chalk
to bring out the date. Use a squirt bottle of water to wash the stone when
finished.
