Printers broken,so can't print instructions..Mahala SELLERS M 1830 JAMES KIRKPATRICK ON a BROWN CO OH river hilltop just about across from the BRACKEN-Mason Co Ky line. MASON CO KY settlerment started in 1784,in forts.BRACKEN CO about 1789,in forts, mostly on the BRACKEN-MASON CO line. 100+ families came down from 10 mile creek,GREENE CO SW PA,1789-91. My thought is that they were really hoping to have 1st choice to the rich lands on the MIAMI'S IN OHIO, but 2 armies out of CINCINNATI vs northern Ohio indians, were defeated in 1789 and 1991. Sooo ,they camped on the poorre lands of BRACKEN, which was apart of Bourbon til ? 1787. And Bourbon co was more interior in Ky,and safer. So,when the indians became too active every spring, there likely was a retreat to Bourbon. My thoughts are that the SELLERS were some\all of the GERMANS FOR WHOM germantown ,KY WAS NAMED. It sits on the BRACKEN CO-MASON CO LINE. 1-2 MILES EAST OF IT WAS FEAGIN'S FORT. 1-2 MIULES WEST WAS ALEX BUCHANAN'S FORT. AT THE MOUTH OF LEES CREEK-DOVER,KY, WAS LEES CREEK STATION [ARTHUR FOX'S STATION- JEREMIAH WASSHBURN'S FERRY- JOSEPHUS WATERS FERRY. Bracken Creek was next west, with it,and another entering the Ohio at THE BIG BOTTOM AT AUGUSTA,which must have had a fort [LEACH'S?], Likely from GERMANTOWN south is drained by the NORTH FORK OF LICKING RIVER. North forth, and main Licking ARE RUNNING PARRALLEL TO THE OHIO past s BRACKEN.
MAHALA SELLER M JAMES KIRKPATRICK,1839,within view of Ohio River and MASON AND BRACKEN CO Ky,in very s BROWN CO OH. 1840 and 1850 CENSUS,THEY WERE WITH HIS FATHER,ANDREW,in Milroy,Rush Co IN. 1860 AND 1870 ,THEY WERE BACK IN MID BROWN CO OH-FRANKLIN Twnsp,wiith,1870,a 2nd home in GEORGETOWN,FOR THEIR ELDER KIDS TO GO TO town school. By 1880,he was dead, and she was in very north LEWIS TWNSP,west of GEORGETOWN 4 MILES. There ,her ELMER KIRKPATRICK m IZORA KELLUM,and he rented the PINKHAM farm between AMELIA and Bantam,Clermont Co Oh,some 14 miles west. Mahala sellers kirkpatrick LIVES IN THE AMELIA METHODIST cemetary.

HERMON,
My unabridged lists MAHALAH as a biblical
name; however, I could
not locate place in BIBLE, even with a search. There is a
very old
book called HITCHCOCK'S BIBLE NAMES DICTIONARY (think part of a
larger biblical analysis) pub. about 1869/74. Thought Wheaton
College had it online, but I could not get anything. Found
a
discussion of name "Mahala." Woman says her ancestor, named
Margaret,
was aka Mahala. Respondent stated prob. a semitic root--final
consonant choice of scribe. May be that Mahala was used as
name and
"nicname" for a family of female names including Mary, Margaret,
etc.
Will keep looking. Think this is your source, however.
Interestingly, dictionary (an old unabridged)
lists
MAHALA/MAHALY as an American Indian word--Marisposan/poss. Penutian
family meaning "woman" or "squaw." Two comments--tribal link
is to
Northern California and do NOT think this is origin of your Mahala.
Also dictionary is most politically incorrect. Native Americans
will
frankly tell you today that "squaw" refers to female genitals.
Most
polite equivalent of calling woman a "squaw" would be to call her
a
slut. You can imagine the impolite ones.
