Marie, this is what I have regarding Bible record of Valentine Burgett,
Jr.
The email address (at bottom) is not current.
I do not have a current address for Robert H Laxton.
I also wrote to Mrs. Gloria Carter in 1998, but did not receive
a
response,
nor did I get my letter back.
This was from Ssgt Robert H Laxton to Burgett List 1 May, 1998.
Below is the typed transcript of the Burget and Griffith Bible Record.
I
have recently written Mrs Gloria Carter and hope to gain more information
from her. Also, I cannot remember what publication this came
from. I
copied while I was in the Memphis Library. I didn't have very
much time
to
copy down references......what a shame.
A photocopy of the original record was submitted for publication
by Mrs.
Gloria Carter, Rt 7 Box 276, Springfield MO 65802. The Bible
is in
possession of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Blanche C. Carter, Springfield,
MO.
It was printed and published in Philadelphia, 1818.

Hi Diane,
I found your request for information on the SELLERS list using Rootsweb's
PML. I'm not a subscriber to the SELLERS list, so I don't know what
prior
discussion went on or how the Purget(t) line might fit in. My Purget(t)
line
was in Hampshire Co., then Ross Co.. I don't have a Valentine, but
this
could be the Henry Purget mentioned. Some of the information is from
a
personal genealogy and no sources were listed. I haven't checked out
all
the information for accuracy. I do have the biography of Henry Purget
(third
generation below). I hope the information might be helpful. Purget
line is
below.
Judy, from Wisconsin
Descendants of Henry PURGET
First Generation
1 Henry PURGET
Henry Purget was born in 1753 in Franklin Town, Maryland. He married
Elizabeth and resided in Hampshire County, Virginia. Henry Purget served
in the Revolutionary War. "... Enlisted in 1778 in the Revolutionary
Army
in
Hampshire County, under Captain Abraham Johnson in Colonel Johnson's
Virginia Regiment and served a little over six months. Ended service
in
1781. ... Received pension in Hampshire County, 21 Oct 1833."
(West
Virginians in the American Revolution, assembled and edited by Ross
B.
Johnston, p. 229. Va. No. 16977, No. S. 18170 - pension application
number).
Second Generation
2 Frederick PURGET
Frederick Purget was born in Hampshire County, Virginia and died after
1860 in Ohio. He Married Mollie SHOEMAKER in Virginia. Virginia may
have been West Virginia at that time. They had ten children, but only
Henry survived by the 1890s. Frederick served in the War of 1812. He
was
a farmer who emigrated to Twin Township, Ross County, Ohio, hewed out
a farm in the midst of the forest and spent the remainder of his life
there.
He was a Whig and afterward a Republican. Frederick is listed as member
of 1st session of Presbyterian Church organized 1841. He died during
the
time of the late war [Civil War].
Mollie’s parents were Peter SHOEMAKER (Born: Bef 1765 - Died: 1822)
and Margaret WILHELM. Peter and Margaret were married: February 05,
1780 in York, Pennsylvania. The source for Mollie’s parents is Shoemaker
Pioneers, Benjamin H. Shoemaker 3rd, published by Benjamin H.
Shoemaker 515 Locust Ave Germantown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
19144, 1975; parents are best guess, Mollie is not mentioned.
Third Generation

Henry and his brother William homesteaded in Kansas. Henry later
returned to Iroquois County, Illinois where he fell in love with Louisa
Jane
Bailey. Her father said they could marry if they did not move out of
Iroquois
County. They farmed in Belmont Township, Iroquois County.
4 William Stallard PURGET was born on April 16, 1850 in Madison County,
Indiana and died on February 03, 1932. William married Emma Jane
