Then, in 1797, a wagon train from Edgecomb County, N.C. arrived at Saunders
Crossroads and families such as the Admas, Jordans, Mannings, Mayos, Cobbs and
Duggans set up residence.
The land in Washington County was originally granted for Revolutionary War
service. Later, Land Lotteries were held to disperse remaining the remaining
land.

1860 WASHINGTON CO, GA CENSUS INDEX
From:
"Jim Willoughby" <giantsteps@alltel.net>
I went to Washington Co, Ga this
week. That's Sandersville, Ga, about 28
miles from Milledgeville, the old state capital. Washington is
adjacent to
Hancock County, where Waller, Lucas, Warren, King, Turner, possibly
Pridgen, and other families migrated to after the Revolutionary War.
While there I found these
census records; hope they give someone the "exact
puzzle piece' they need.
My mother was a Turner.
During the holidays I located the unmarked grave of
her mother. She died giving childbirth, along with the child in 1916. At
that time, my mother was almost two years old. My grandfather remarried and
we never knew the true Turner line. I now have it back to 1650 in Scotland
and we're putting a marker at Union Baptist Church, Washington County, Ga.
for Pauline Turner McDaniel and her infant, in memory of my mother, Susie
Turner McDaniel Willoughby. It made my Christmas, and that of my two
sisters, quite special.
Best wishes for a good 2001.
