SELLERS, SEABORN W.                               1851-1908
APPLING
     Seaborn Wallace Sellers was born in Appling County, June 1, 1851, a son
of Lenuel and Elizabeth (Hall) Sellers (Vol.IV). He was married three times,
and had a total of thirteen children. He was first married Dec.19, 1872, to
Emma Jane Curry, born in Coffee County, Sept. 20, 1854, daughter of Daniel
and Mary (Green) Curry and granddaughter of Duncan Curry (Vol V). Born by
this marriage were four children.

     The first wife died July 4, 1880, and bus buried in Hazelhurst town
cemetery near her parents. Her daughter, Helen, was buried at her feet. On
April 4, 1881, Mr. Sellers married Lucretia Horton, born March 20, 1867.
Daughter of Joseph G, Horton of Appling County. By her only one child was
born.

Gordon,Lived in Jax, Fla.

     Mrs. Lucretia Horton Sellers died May 5, 1884, shortly after her
daughter's birth, and was buried near the first wife in Hazlehurst Cemetery.
The child was taken in charge. by her grandmother, Mrs Lavina Horton, and
grew up in her home
     Seaborn W. Sellers' third marriage was in 1887 to Eppie White, born
March 8, 1861, in Telfair County, daughter of Sherod and Amanda (Powell)
White, and by her eight children were born, three of whom named Eppie, Kate
and Otto Sellers, died young. The other five were:

     The three children, Eppie, Kate and Otto, died during a typhoid
epidemic and were buried at Nicholls, Ga.; graves unmarked.  Mr. Sellers
died Dec. 9, 1908, and was buried in Rocky Branch cemetery located just
inside Jeff Davis County; there was a church there by the name of Rocky
Branch but it is gone and the cemetery is no longer used. The sons, Seaborn
Jr., and Wallace were buried there also.
       The widow, Mrs. Eppie Sellers, later married Henry P. Roddenberry,
and died March 16, 1944. She with him is buried in Graham Methodist Church
cemetery.

SELLARS, SAMUEL                              1740-1794
EFFINGHAM

     Samuel Sellars, a Revolutionary soldier of Duplin County, N.C., was
born in that state about 1740-45, a son of *Samuel Sellars. Duplin County
deed records show the latter acquired 300 acres in Duplin from Richard James
Oct. 5, 1751.(*=correction later, msh)

     Samuel Sellars, the subjject, married his cousin, Zilpa Sellars, in
Duplin County, May 11, 1767. They has threen known children, viz:

Aug. 8, 1794

     Samuel Sellars served in the North Carolina militia in the
Revolutionary War, and a few years after the was moved to Effingham County,
Georgia. A deed appears of record in Sampson County, N.C. from Samuel
Sellars "of Georgia" to Nathaniel Merritt, dated Nov. 9, 1790, for three
hundred acres in formerly Duplin, now Sampson County (Deed Book 9, paage
226, Sampson County). The Sellars home-place was cut out of Duplin into
Sampson County when the latter county was formed in 1786.

     Samuel Sellars died in Effingham County, in 1794, age about 50 years.
His will dated August 29, 1794, was probated in that county a few weeks
after it was executed.

     About 1806, the widow and children (who by that time had married) moved
to Tattnall County, where she died. When Appling County was opened to
settlers in 1819, The sons moved across the Aitamaha into the new county and
lived there until they died.

SELLARS, SAMUEL                           1775-1845
APPLING
 

     Samuel Sellars, a son of Samuel Sellars, R> S> ,(Vol. II), was born in
Duplin County, N. C. , about 1775, and came with his parents to Effingham
County, Georgia, in his boyhood. His wife was Mary Bishop soncerning whom
nothing is now known. Date and place of marriage not known. Born to Samuel
and Mary Sellers were the following children (list probably incomplete):

     Samuel Sellars with his family, and also his brother, John , moved to
Tattnall County soon after its creation. He granted lands there and his name
is found in the Grand Jury box for Tattnall County for 1810. With the
opening up of the County of Appling to settlers, Samuel Sellars and his
brother John and their families moved across the Altamaha River into the new
county , and Samuel lived there until his death about 1845.
 

SELLARS, THOMAS DARLEY.                  1807-1865
ECHOLS

     Thomas Darley Sellars (generally referred to as "Darley" Sellars) was
born in Barnwell District, S.C, Feb. 13, 1807, a son of David and Sarah
Sellars and a grandson of John Guess, R, S, (Vol. II). He came to Georgia
with his maternal grandparents in his youth and was in Camden County with
them in 1826. However, returned to his old home in Barnwell District and was
married there in 1829 to Miss Jane Copeland, daughter of Lott Copeland (Vol.
I). She was born there August 25, 1812. To Darley and Jane Sellars were born

     Darley Sellars moved with his family about 1841 to Lowndes County,
Georgia, and settled in the section just west of the Alapaha River; and in
1858 was cut out of Lowndew into Echols County. He died there Sept. 28,
1865. His wife survived nearly thirty years, and died August 18, 1894. They
were buried at Wayfare Church.
     Mr. Sellars and wife were members of Wayufare Primitive Baptist  Church
and were baptized into its membership about 1843. He served as church clerk
1847-48 and again 1853-58. He was ordained to the deaconshop March 5, 1853.
About 1858-59 he was expelled on account of doctrinal differences, and he
and his wife united with nearby Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and was
received as a ordained deacon. He continued in that capacity in Macedonia
Church until his death.
     Darley Sellars served as 4th Corporal in the Indian War under Capt.
John J. Johnson in 1840

The Jefferson Co census shows the above Sellers with the Prescott family
living with them, a Daughter maybe?
there were no Greathouse or Dodd in Jefferson Co.  I did check the Lowndes
Co also and nothing at all there.
do you have access to the books by Judge Folks Huxford "Pioneers of
Wiregrass Georgia"?  There are Sellers listed in it. I am sending you what
I have Copied at this time and also post them to Ga. List.  I will copy the
rest also send to you and also to the List.  I will wait to hear from you
and hope what I did send will help.

Volume 3, Additions/Corrections to vol. 2: Sellars, Samuel (p. 250): His
son, John, married Jane Carter in Bulloch County, July 28, 1798. She was
the daughter of Matthew Carter, R.S.

Volume 4 Additions/Corrections to Vol. 2: This correction is just about
Mrs. Norma Taylor Dixon being the first descendant of Samuel Sellers to
become a member of the D.A.R. on his service as a Revolutionary Soldier
(she is descended, like myself, from the grand-daughter Cinderella, wife
of James Lee (vol 1) and then thru their daughter Tobitha Lee who
married Lewis Tillman Taylor).

Volume 4 Additions/Corrections to vol. 3: Sellers, Samuel (page 290):
John Sellers, listed as a son with wife named Keziah, was in fact a
nephew instead of a son. Samuel's son, John, was named John Millender
Sellers and was born 1812 (q.v.).

Volume 5 Additions/Corrections to vol. 2: Sellers, Samuel (page 250):
His wife was a daughter of Samuel and Hannah Sellers of Sampson County
(formerly Duplin County), NC.

Volume 5 Additions/Corrections to vol 4: Sellers, John Millender (page
256): (1) He was born Sept. 8, 1813, and died July 10, 1888. His first
wife, Mary Martha Mobley, was born May 20, 1819, died may 23, 1853. The
secind wife, Elizabeth Carter, died Dec 28, 1891, age 54 years. They
were buried in the old Sellers Cemetery about five miles north of
Baxley. (2) The oldest son, William, was never married.

Volume 6 Additions/Corrections to vol. 2: Sellers, Samuel (page 250): He
died in 1799 in Effingham County, and his will was probated there May
11, 1799, which would show he died in 1799 instead of 1794 (which was
the year that the will was made).

Volume 6 Additions/Corrections to vol. 4: Sellers, John M. (page 256):
The son, Jimpsey M., did not die single as was stated; he married Louise
Bell, July 17, 1864.

These are all the corrections listed in the first 9 volumes related to
these particular Sellers/Sellars.

To daughter, PENELOPE, he gives certain items of personalty. Executor: Son, JOHN SELLERS. Witnesses: John Strahan, Howell Hines, John Moore, J.P.  (Editor’s note: This family moved to Effingham Co., from Sampson Co., NC, c1790, and the three children all later moved around 1805 - 1808 to Tattnall Co., then about ten years later to Appling County when it was first opened up to settlers. Samuel Sellers, the testator, married his cousin, Zilpha Sellers, May 11, 1767, in Duplin Co., NC. She was deceased when the will was made.)

Thank You, Patrick - I always thought Zilpha, Samuel's wife, was alive when he died-
I don't think I  have original will, just GA Testate records = wife and the three children-
Wonder if this is an assumption because she wasn't named? Usually testate records don't list a wife, unless she is referred to in will or document?
