Marie,
From Shane Collection (I accessed on-line
through Woodson Co KY).
Don't recall that you have this. Looks like a second
marriage or a
junior Eneas based upon your info; if so, bride could well be a
widow.

Marie and All, I had little time to copy all of the notes from the
following, so it's very incomplete. Index of items follows. Want
to
purchase or order to read full microfilm. BOURBON CO KY COURT ORDERS
1786-1793, an Every Name Index, 1995, TLC Genealogy, Miami Beach
FL. The
film is available for sale. LDS # is 183092 Had time to find the
following entries (and have abbreviated same): p. 35, March 1787.
An
indenture (land sale) of Enos McDonald + Sidney his wife to William
Buchner (possibly Bucket, but I think Buchner). (Notes: Wife is
Sidney.
There is at least one other Sidney. From memory, she was dau of
Francis
McDaniel, probable son of Enos, and she married a Howard. A William
Buchner or Buckner was executor of Leonard Sellers 1823 will.) Next
entry for Enos, Apr. 1787, shows him doing Jury duty. Page not noted.
P.
144. James Lowry + wife against John McDanell. (Lowry also filed
against
John Smiley. Both suits were dismissed.) Date not noted but bef.
1790.
(Note: You show the following Bourbon Co marriage: Mary Sellers
married
Andrew Lowry 14 March 1799. Does anyone know whose daughter she
was?)
Next found two suits (both 1790, I think) against John McDonald.
One was
brought by David McCash and was dismissed. David paid John Ryland
for
six days testimony. John paid Rachel McDonald for 1 day of testimony.
Next suit was brought by William Archer. Did not have time to pursue.

MARIE and ALL,
Although this is not the Eneas/Enos McDaniel
of Bourbon Co KY,
this is probably the PA one that I found before. Could be related
to
the Eneas/Enos of Bourbon. Fact that he was executor of a Lemon
will
might tie him to Max McDaniel's "grandfather" Andrew McDaniel who had
son-in-law George Lemon and so on. The Lancaster Co PA marriage
of
this Enos McDaniel in 1772 might lend support to a McDaniel/Sellers
acquaintance there--maybe the family Michael Sellers of Bracken Co
KY.
Not sure, but I am passing on the clues.

Sherry,
Hi! I'm researching the McDonald family in Westmoreland/Fayette
county,
PA. I came upon your name by doing a search for McD and have
been
very
interested in all the info you have posted. I'm working with
Neil
McDonald trying to make a connection for Valentine. He was on
the
1790
Fayette county PA census but then moved to Mason county KY. Later
he moved to Brown/Clermont county OH. If you have any info on
Valentine I'd really appreciate it. My own line is for Jeremiah,
s/o Alexander,
who died intestate in Fayette PA but his children all signed selling
the land later.
I've been collecting all McD info for PA that I can find in the hopes
of figuring out these families. I have some info on an Enos that
I
didn't see you post, so I thought you might be interested in it.
I have
the Familytree church record CD #166 which has:
Church Records: Selected Areas of PA, 1600s-1800s-Rev. John
Cuthbertson records, Lancaster, PA
24 November 1772 - married Enos McDonald and Rebecca Duncan. (At mid.
Oct.)
Familytree lists and Enos being in PA in 1800 on their census index
but I haven't seen the actual 1800 Westmoreland county census.
I also
found a book at my local library with Washington county will abstracts.
I
was checking it for all McD's and found this:
John Liming(Lemon), yeoman, Nottingham twp. (page 371)

I found this info online for Cumberland cty, PA. I noticed you
had

Hi, Marie,
My records show the wife of Francis as Dolly McNew
and the wife of
his brother, John as Polly Hamilton.
The information on John McDaniel and Polly Hamilton
comes from
Kentucky Pioneer Genealogy and Records, Vol. 2 #2, Apr 1980.
Witness for the wedding of John and Polly was Francis
McDaniel.
Father of the bride was Thomas Hamilton. Wedding date Oct.17,
1792.
I do not have a record of a Sellers interconnection
at this time.
Part of the problem in dealing with the geography
of the layout of
the initial Virginia Land Grant to Enos McDonald/McDaniel in 1783.
It
was a roughly square shaped piece of land tilted about 45 degrees.
There were no section lines as I am accustomed to in my home state
of
Indiana. It was only because it touched on two streams that I
was able
to determine the physical location. These streams were Silas
Run to the
north and Townsends Creek to the south. The land layout crossed
over
Silas Run on the north and bordered Townsend Creek to the south.
There
is only one general location along the streams where this condition
can
be met. About one mile to the east the two streams become
one, where
it runs in a north easterly direction and is part of the present-day
border between Bourbon County to the south and Harrison to the north.
Ruddles Station was to the east of this creek confluence. To
the west
of this point, Silas Run becomes the present day border between the
two
counties.
When the two separate counties came into existence,
part of the land
of Enos was north of the creek, in Harrison County with the bulk of
it
being south of the line in Bourbon County. Francis inherited
land in
the northern portion and John's was in the southern part.
When Enos McDonald/McDaniel died his will was processed
in Bourbon.
The will of Francis went through the courthouse of Harrison County.
Chasing down official records becomes very difficult. Additionally,
many of the county records were boxed up and taken (at a time unknown
to
me) to the State Archives in Frankfort. Some counties had employees
who
were neat and tidy so records at the archives are relatively easyh
to
peruse. Not so from Bourbon County. Some look as though
they were
picked up by the armload and squished into the transport boxes.
The
years haven't been kind to them. Regulations for using these
records is
that they must be returned in the storage boxes in the same order as
found.
A few years ago as I was trying to make some sense
of a particular
box it called to mind a remark of one of my sons. I took a taste
of
buttermilk which was past its prime and spit it out remarking that
it
had gone bad. My son asked, "How can something go bad which is
bad to
begin with?" My point in mentioning this is that many of the
bits of
information floating around are tied to these original records which
are
now stored in the state archives. I plan on spending a week going
into
them next month.
The information I located about the "deposition
of Enos McDonald"
was compiled by Mrs. Wm. Breckenridge Ardery and presented in a booklet
for the Paris (KY)
sesquicentennial in 1939. Unfortunately it is out of print.
I have
made copies of pertinent pages. For her material on "Forts" and
stations she gave her reference as Draper Mss and Depositions filed
in
suits.
A few years ago I lucked into meeting a young woman
who had done
some research on Stations in the area. I asked her about the
original
notes of Mrs. Ardery's. I think it was a niece who had some control
over the notes and refuses to make them available to anyone.
However,
part of her notes ended up in the state archives. I hope to find
them
next month and thereby locate some of the originals.
I have a scanner software problem at the moment.
When it is in
operation again I will be able to send this Sesqui. material to you.
Nice hearing from you.
Cheerio,

Paul, I don't know if my early McDaniel-McDonald-McDonell ancestors
(common
spelling variants in various records through the years) had relatives
who
remained in the Hampshire Co. VA-WV area when they left for Baltimore
Co.
MD in the 1760's, thence moving to swPA, Westormoreland Co. PA, by
the
early-mid 1770's. This was Joseph McD's family (wife's name unknown),
their
son was born 11 Jan 1760 at South Branch of the Potomac River (northern
Hampshire County), namely Valentine McD (my line), who served in Rev
War
from Westmoreland Co. PA, firstly in 1777 at age 17 -- all per Val's
Rev
War pension records. I have corresponded with several McD's of Hampshire,
Hardy and Frederick Counties over the years and will try to find their
records containing various McD data. My McD ancestors moved 'on down
the
river' (Monongahela and Ohio) via flatboat from Fayette Co. PA in 1790
to Maysville, KY (Mason County.) Val moved his family across the river
(Ohio) to the area of present Brown Co. OH c1796, this providing some
interesting
and fun postings with Herm Fagley of that general area. (Herm, I have
enjoyed
your input and instigation of commentary at wvhampsh-l, you haven't
lost
your touch.)

Subject: 1880 census Elizabeth Vaughn
Surname:
-------------------------
I need to locate a son or daughter of John MCDANIEL and Polly/Mary SELLERS
of Bracken Co KY who was alive in 1880. Elizabeth (MCDANIEL) VAUGHN
was
their daughter. She was born about 1800, married Thomas VAUGHN in Bracken
Co, and lived in Nicholas Co.
I know she was alive in 1850, but I need 1880 info. Willing to pay expenses
of a search or purchase a print copy of the census, if available. This
was the first census on which parents birthplaces were listed. I want
to
know if her entry agrees with a much younger sister, Mary (MCDANIEL)
MEFFORD,
who gave John MCDANIEL'S birthplace as Ireland and Mary SELLERS' as
Prussia/Germany.
My ancestor, James, died too early to provide this info.
Help appreciated.
Thought I would update you will the little news that I MAY have. Have
located a daughter of John MCDANIEL and Polly SELLERS of Bracken Co
KY in a
census of 1900. It's a long story, but Mary (MCDANIEL) MEFFORD states
in an
1880 census that her parents were born in Ireland and Prussia, respectively.
This according to a relative.
The 1900 census of Monroe County, IA, Pleasant Twp. shows that Mary
MEFFORD,
widow, aged 82, lists her parents as born Ireland and Germany, respectively.
What does it mean? It means, if true, that Mack MCDANIEL was likely
an Irish
immigrant just before the Revolution and that John must have been an
infant
at the time. Means that Polly SELLERS could NOT have been the daughter
of
Johann Michael aka John Michael aka Michael SELLERS, since he came
to PA as
a boy.
I am trying to find another child who lived until at least 1880 when
this
information was first recorded. Looking for Monty Sellers "grandma,"
Elizabeth (MCDANIEL) VAUGHN in Nicholas County KY. Since she was born
about
1800, doubt that she made it. My James died a couple of years too early.
Best bet may be AURANEY (MCDANIEL) MAINES/MAINS. Think husband George
Mains
may have stayed in Bracken.
Let you know what I find. Not sure the info on parent birthplaces is
accurate. Descendants were calling her Mary KING rather than MCDANIEL,
and I
wonder why. It's my James MCDANIEL who married Sarah KING and one of
Monte's
relative married another.
Last note-probably coincidence. The MEFFORD/MEFFERT family goes back
to
Prussia/Germany (northern Germany was part of Prussia), and the immigrant
Andreas MEFFERT's wife was Magdalene HAAS. I see the new ZELLER entry
contains a Barbara HAAS.

Hi, Debi,
I came across your message of Wed, 9 Sep 1998
in
http://showcase.netins.net/web/sellerfamily/mcdaniel.htm
http://showcase.netins.net/web/sellerfamily/stacy.htm
You stated you were researching the MCDONALD family
in Westmoreland/Fayette County,
PA. The above web site includes a whole bunch of goodies but
it also tends to blur the bottom line
that the PA Enos MCDONALD (1790 PA Census, Washington County, Nottingham
twp. on
Mingo Creek) and the KY Enos MCDONALD (Bourbon County in the 1790
time fame) were two
different men bearing the same name.
Within the web site named above is a report by
me giving a background of the Bourbon County,
KY Enos MCDONALD and his connection to Westmoreland, County, PA
between 1773 and
1776. Between his acquiring a Virginia Land Grant in 1783
under the name of Enos MCDONALD
and the time of his death in 1802, most documents show the name
as becoming Enos
MCDANIEL. For this reason I began referring to him as Enos
MCDONALD/MCDANIEL. His
grandson (my gr- gr- grandfather), Enos MCDANIEL, was the son of
Francis MCDANIEL.
Since the time when I put together my report
I was fortunate to make contact with Mary
(MCDONALD) SILVA who is a direct descendent of the PA Enos MCDONALD.
The PA Enos
MCDONALD family kept the MCDONALD form of the name and migrated
to Butler County (city
of Hamilton), OH about 1800 and then on to Indiana (including Fayette
County, where I live) before
moving onward.
On the other hand, the KY Enos MCDONALD family
became MCDANIEL family. It is
possible that the family lines of one or two of his five known sons
may have retained the
MCDONALD form but we have not been able to demonstrate this.
It appears that there have been two major sources
of confusion for researchers following the early
KY MCDANIEL family line.
Number one: the obscure clues demonstrating
the name change.
Number two: the question of the given name
of his wife--Sidney, from a 1786 deed of sale of a
portion of the 1783 Virginia Land Grant; Frances CAMPBELL from a
1796 marriage record;
Isabelle (or Isabella), the name of his widow in his 1802 will.
Our search of records in Westmoreland, PA was
intended to clear the identity question of, "Was
the Westmoreland Co., PA Enos MCDONALD the one who migrated to Washington
Co., PA--or
the one who migrated to Bourbon Co., KY?" The clarifying point
would have been finding the name
given as being the wife of the wife in Westmoreland Co., PA.
Unfortunately this information still
eludes us--as does his location prior to being in Westmoreland Co.,
PA
Mary MCDONALD SILVA can provide you with a large
amount of information about the
Washington Co., PA Enos MCDONALD.
I would be glad to share information I have available.

Hi, Marie,
What I will do is go into my data on the Enos McDonald
Virginia Land
Grant. From it I will scan them and if possible will get
the material
to you as an e-mail attachment. Should the files be too big
I could
make hard copies and get them to you by pony express.
When I was originally gathering this land grant
material
it was
prior to our knowing of the PA connection. My search was
for Kentucky
grants (including the war of 1812) and it hadn't occurred to
me that
territory in Pennsylvania could have been a part of it.
I'll have to
check it out.
Since retirement last April 17th my time has become
compleytely
unstructured so please do not be too impatient with my
slower replies.
I had been seeing patients for fifty-two years and when I
hit age
seventy-nine, I figured that this amounted to close to a
quarter of a
million eyeballs--that was enough!

Sherrymazzetti1@prodigy.net follows McDonald's and McDaniel's.
Butler County wasn't very old in 1805.
A portion of my Abraham's and Winn's pioneered there.
My personal library has only a little book on Paddy's Run,and a
history of Miami U re Butler Co.
ARBOWLING11@YAHOO.COM lives just west of Butler Co,though she
was raised attending the Concord Methodist of Williamsburg TWNSP,Clermont
that I've been writing about on OHCLERMO-L@rootsweb.com.

an 1850 census would be great

Hello;
I have been searching for information on my Enos McDonald for a long
time. I also exchange info with Don MacDaniel, I believe that
he has
posted at times on your list. His ancestor, another Enos McDonald,
lived in KY is the one you are following. It seems that both his
Enos and
mine, lived in PA, about the same time, just to make things interesting.
I believe that Don's Enos, lived in another county. My Enos was
born about 1750 in Scotland, according to my G GFather's family history
account of the McDonalds, Logans, Dicksons and Brownlees. He
immigrated to PA and married Rebecca Duncan (according to marriage
records) in November 1772, in Middle Octoraro, Lancaster County,
PA.
They settled in Nottingham Twp., on Mingo Creek (about 400 acres), in
Washington County, PA and lived there until after 1803, when they
removed to Butler Co., Ohio. Their children were: Daniel, Leah
and Rachel. Daniel, my GGG GF, married Catherine Logan, in 1807 in
Butler Co.,
OH. She was the daughter of Patrick Logan and Nancy Sally Harper
of PA. Their son THomas McDonald was my GG GF, who married
Elizabeth Dickson; their son Daniel, writer of the referenced historical
account and "A History of Marshall Co., Indiana, 1836-1888", was my G
GF.
Hope this gives you some additional comparative data. I have been
unable to establish when and where my GGGG GF & GM, Enos and
Rebecca, died and are buried. Any info that may apply to my McDonalds,
would be deeply appreciated.
Mary
Marie and All,
Just want to be sure that everyone is aware
of
the Pennsylvania Digital Archives which contains
several searchable military databases, including cards
for all of the Rev War muster rolls, including militia
and those who were call but did not see active duty.
Site might be very useful. I knew
that my
"uncle," John King (of Bracken Co., KY) had served in
the Bedford PA militia, but I could not find his
brother (my ancestor), Richard. Richard has a card.
Probably never qualified for a pension because his
service was short.
Saw Sellers/Zellers, etc. but did not copy.
Did
find an interesting note on Enos McDaniel/McDonald who
is in our Sellers KY records. He does NOT have a
service card but rather a note stating the following:
MCDONALD, ENOS
To him and 3 others, 7s. 6d. total was
paid on 23
Nov 1781 by the Lt. of Northampton County, toward
their expenses as prisoners from Detroit, traveling to
KY. [Citation from an account book follows. The way
it printed makes a couple of things unclear. Can find
it, if someone wants it.]

I think that http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/
will work--at least that's what's saved on my
computer. If you found the ARIAS site, you just go to
the bottom of the page which talks about info or
searching or some such thing (and is highlighted).
When I went through the McDaniel/McDonald names, he
was in the cardfile but with just a note, not a
military card. I am ASSUMING that this is the Enos
who was married to Sidney, not the one in PA who was
married to a Duncan woman, but I am not absolutely
positive. As I recall, someone on this board alerted
me to the fact that several individuals (maybe with
family members) were taken prisoner by the British or
Indians at one of the forts and marched to Canada.
Not sure what the Detroit reference is all about.
If anyone has difficulty getting to the ARIAS site,
I'll try again for a method to get there.

us?
