I would like to correspond with any Boyds in Coryell
County, who descend
from William Boyd and Rebecca Sellers of Pike
County AL. My gggrandmother
was Margaret Boyd who married John Thompson in AL, then settled
in Cherokee
County TX while the rest of her family went to Coryell County. I
believe
she is the daughter of William and Rebecca. Thanks, Diane Bingham
"Marriage information from LDS records, Batch #5933022.
Margaret BOYD
married John A. THOMPSON in Montgomery Co.,
AL on 2 Dec 1852 [Marriage Book
2A, p. 127] The story in our family says Margaret committed suicide
when
she
was only 24 years old. She witnessed an Indian massacre at
their
settlement. Took her 3 children and hid in a cornfield.
Afterwards, she
walked about 10 miles to the settlement at Alto. Her husband
was away, not
known where. She later committed suicide, but details are
unknown. Buried
in Jacksonville City Cemetery, Cherokee
County TX. Gravestone placed by
her
son John William Thompson several years after her death. Maiden
name not
placed on the stone: just first and middle. Last name of Boyd
verified by
Ola Thompson Lively from family bible. Middle name, Ora Anner,
probably
spelled phoenetically. The grave marker was photographed in
the summer of
1968, but in the summer of 1995, we were unable to locate
the grave marker
in the cemetery at Jacksonville."
In just the past few days, I have found new information about the
family of
William Boyd that suggests he and his wife Rebecca were the parents
of
Margaret. If you have anything to add, I would be most greatful
for the
help. Thanks, Diane Bingham
