The next meeting was held in the Town Hall, February 29, 1819, when the
citizens’ committee reported a collection of seven hundred and fifty
dollars, and from the Council one hundred and fifty dollars. William
ALRICHS, George BUSH and John F. GILPIN were appointed to procure an
engine.  They reported soon after that "the hand-engine they bought was
constructed upon the old English principle, with the addition of Coleman
Sellers’
patent improvement of the follower in the air chamber, and
would play from two pipes at the same time."

   GEORGE SELLERS
A clipping reporting the speech of James Hatfield, made on the occasion of a marriage anniversary of John and Mary Johnes Kitchen Rife, told of the father of Mary Sellers Jones "marrying a Swedish Girl of the Swedes from down toward Willmington, Del. " The Records of Holy Trinity (Old Swedes) Church in Winmington give those two records; page 744. "George
Sellers married Sarah Clifferd, Dec 6, 1775." page 760, "George Sellers
married  Ann Matson, Dec. 6, 1786. " George Sellers and Sarah Cliffordm married Dec. 6, 1775 must have been the parents of Mary Sellers Jones,
born January 17, 1777. To date we have not found any further records of George and Sarah. The name Clifferd may have been a variant spelling of Clifford which would seem to be an English name. Howecer Sarah's mother may have been of Swedish extraction.

I am working on a book on architect Frank Furness who appears to have had some connections to Sellers and "Clifton". Do you know if there are any photographs of Clifton after c. 1875? Best, George Thomas

from my footnote: , National Archives William Sellers, 28 March 1877, re: John Fraser. Michael Lewis documents what appears to have work on the house “Clifton” in Bellefonte, New Castle County, outside of Wilmington and near the Edgemoore steel plant. This house was transferred by will in 1875 : see “Ziba Ferris 07/04/1875 "Clifton" NC.Co Heirs: wife-Eliza Meager Ferris- my beloved "Clifton" and all contents of Son-Edward Dau-Elizabeth Ferris Smyth Adopted son-Alter? Framing Information

A Beautifully Detailed, Original Plan of the Detail of the Front Entrance of the Cottage on the Estate of Richard Sellers in Bellevue, Delaware. HAND-COLORED.  Prentice Sanger, Architect. From the American Architect and Building News, January 10, 1929.

This picture is extremely hard to find, as the American Architect and Building News not only had a very small circulation during that time, but very few were actually preserved or colored as this has been. It measures 8.75 by 13.25 inches. Has a mat border and foam core backing (not attached to the picture). The whole picture measures 12 by 16 inches (with border). Finely detailed and beautifully hand-colored. Shrink wrapped.

Plan is in VG+ condition with light browning along the edges and some light crinkling.
