I have the above listed on the 1860 Johnston Co.
Census, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910. And many of them in our Family Bible.
==============================
Dora Lee Childers Daugherty use to tell my Mother about Joshua
Meilton
living in Arkansas, but the census 1900(Johnston County) NC,
says he was
born in Mississippi.
Family lore states that Jane Sellers Childers always talked about
him
being stranded and that soldiers had to get back anyway they could.
He married
Jane Sellers April of 1865. He worked for her Father- in- law a
Sellers
from N.C. When he had enough money he took his family and
went West. .
The family moved West and they stayed 1 or 2 years (may have been
more) and then moved back to Smithfield/Selma NC for the rest of
his
life.
As a child Dora Lee Childers talked of going back over the Mississippi
on a barge. They
went to Johnston County NC (Smithfield area to stay).
Sometime in the late1880's Joshua and Jane decided to move and stay
in
Smithfield, NC.
They lived in Johnston County sometime after the Civil War until
1930's and some family probably is still in Smithfield , Four Oaks,
Selma, NC area. It may be that some of his Children
went back to MS or Ark.
we lost contact with the Smithfield Childers after the Younger
generation
moved to Gastonia NC, Dover Del., and Florida.
Jane Sellers Childers went to the soldiers reunions each year.
He was
in an article in the Smithfield Observer. April 24, 1923 Vol. 3
#69 Page 1
on the left side of the page. New Orleans was his last parade
and visit to
see his soldier friends.
Others mentioned in the article (as being from Johnston Co ) were:
C.H. Benson
another "Benson"
Ruffin Tomlinson
Wilson's Mills (which I think is all of the mill workers but I am
not
sure)
L.F. Peedin (near Princeton)
=======================
Concerning Joshua Meilton Childers name:
Mom said the family called him M.J., His tombstone says M.J. Childers
He is called:
M.J. in the 1880 census(South Smithfield, James
in the 1900 West
Selma),
Joshua in the 1910 census -Smithfield Township.
One census has him listed as James
This is the same guy, all the other family members match and the
grandson
and a single Grandma Dora Lee were living with them.
And to really mix us up He is called "Jim" in the newspaper article
mentioned above.

I sent a note to :
J.H. Stepp about Joshua Meilton Childers
Can you help me find out where he "mustered." ???
Just thought I would see if you saw him in the records.

I fear that I cannot shed much light on the place of birth of J.M.
Childers.
I do note that a J.M. Childers served in Company A of the 38th Arkansas
Infantry, and there was a J.N. Childers in Company C of the 2nd
Mississippi Infantry as well.

Joshua Meilton was born December 26, 1844 (?) The Bible says
1944 and
the census says 1942.
Some of our Childers use Childres and Childress. The census, marriage,
and Obits sometimes show the different names. Most of our family
used
Childres and Childers.
We do not know where JM lived when he was young until
the Civil War,
nor do we know his parents first names. We could use some
help.Joshua Meilton

Possibly from Ark. or Ms.

Tonight I rechecked the Family Bible and
I came across an entry that
was not made. I also went over some notes my Mother made as
she talked with
her Mother about "JM or MJ" a few years ago. And I noted that
my Grandmother
wrote "Mary Childers" by MJ's name and "Cynthia Sellers" by Jane
Sellers
name (In the Family tree box for "Mother".)...I do not know how
I could
have missed the "Mary Childers" other than the fact that my Grandmother
started listing my 1st cousins births along the side of this page
and I may have
thought that this was a Mary Childers that died soon after birth.
Mom
told me that Jane's father was a big land owner and his property
is now what
they call Selma. I haven't looked at the Bible since I connected
with Peggy
Ward and reconnected with my G Grandmother Dora Lee Childers siblings.
I just received gov.80 form and now it appears I do not even
need it. I
need to request for JM/MJ's pension records from the State of North
Carolina. So I will look for the address tomorrow when I get
on the net
and
put in a request for the correct form since he was not a Union soldier
in
the Civil War. I'll know more in a few weeks and hopefully
the name will
get settled once and for all. Jane Sellers Childers received
a widow's
pension after his dealth in 1924. My Mother said "M.J."
is on the tomb
stone but he went by the several names that I listed yesterday.
Thanks for such a quick response. I know back in 1985 I ran
across those
names after rolls and rolls of microfilm. I have a 1830
census but the
thermo paper has turned so dark it is of little use. It is a Johnston
Co., I
believe it's roll #4/123. it's of poor quality and their are
bad streaks
going down so I'll go check on Cuzzy and Benjamin tomorrow.
I am going to go to the LDS family Center tomorrow and see
what I can
come up with. I ran across the address the other day and I
had now idea they
had a center in Lake Mary, Fl. I'm only 30 minutes away......Super!
I like
your Seller's "You know your a Genealogist when..." That sound
like me
the last 6 months. Thanks for all you do for families.

Looking for our Families Niche!
JOHNSTON CO, NC=
http://www.netins.net/showcase/sellerfamily/ncjohns.htm
seems we don't have enough info to prove these families!
We Don't have the 1840 census data which would show Who had kids
this age
-
If
you have extracted - we sure could use.
1830 BENJAMIN SELLERS and CUZZY SELLERS both have males 1825/3=3
of them
And in 1850 we have 3 males 1825/30 = Same?
But Where are they in 1840?
Benjamin SELLERT is a possibility. Are we living with the JOHN SELLERS
?
and Where/Who is this FAITHY SELLERS born ca 1775 living with
WM H. SELLERS
in 1850: Makes you think of the GURLEY families that married SELLERS.
Wonder
if they had a daughter Faithy unmarried?
The JOHN SELLERS here in Johnston Co deeds in 1820/24/28 had a wife
named
ANN.
In Sampson Co, next door we have a JOHN SELLERS that died in 1845
with
wife ANN-Same?
We don't seem to have a Will on them - land deeds don't show a
relationship-
Has Anyone looked to see what we have for War Records Here - We
don't
show a list on our Johnston Co, NC page - NEED.
A JOHN SELLERS was exec for BLACKMANS formerly from Sampson Co.
THANKS for sharing and if you can help on Any of the Above - advise
-
marie,iowa
OUR Johnston/Sampson Co, NC does not show much on the newer
Childers/etc
AND most of my info is extracted Only on SELLERS and surnames they
connect to
BEF 1830 and that does Not Connect Much to PROVE to - But, We use
what
info we have!
Marriages = listed sometimes by application? date and also by marriage
date? and
sometimes are mistyped - Wit or Bondsman is main concern for info
MELTON family is closely associated with SELLERS = see nothing here
=
could also be newer families.
Believe there could be a connection to Sampson Co, but, can't
prove -
except we know JOHN SELLERS may have lived both places AND BLACKMANS?
connected to
us when?
JOHNSTON CO, NC seems to connect to SELLERS names (check land description
also) in Edgecome/Nash/
Look at a Map today = You CANNOT see the area it was in 1800=
YOU must use Land description of Rivers/creeks/land patents
OR there are Early Maps on line = Use
CHARLENE- kinda got side/tracked from your questions = BUT, think
it All
connects-
Thanks for sharing, marie, iowa
CHARENE - I don't believe I have Ever Found a HARRISON/SELLERS marriage
-
But, we have lived Next to them for Years
PA and NC I think of first - Very Early - and perhaps
to KY - course ,
kinda common name -
Do you have a HARRISON connection ? Thanks, marie, iowa
SOMEONE else has info, please send -

No, I do not have a Harrison connections but I was wondering about
Jane

she might
have lived in that town or if her parents could have been related

PLACES are Very Important Also-
THIS is what we Have to Do , to follow these families!
Lots harder than following SELLERS SURNAMES-
BUT, Others have followed their SURNAMES thro (her brothers, etc)
USE them - Check them Out and SEND info-
Thanks, hope you understand
marie, iowa
CHARLENE - Thanks for doing documents/proven info -
Send Names/Dates/Places = should give enough info for AnyOne to
Trace/Search
Marriages should show Bondsman, Secuity, Sometimes Parents, Sometimes
Ages

I am trying to find out if Moriah Sellers (born 1805) and Faithy (born about 1775-1780) might be the mother and or grandmother of Alsey Sellers. Anyone know who Faithy Married?
and
I am trying to prove that
1a--- Daniel (born 9/10/1828), married Sarah (Nancy) Ann Blackmon
on 13 October 1856
or another
or 1b--- Daniel A. (born 1828-1830), married Patsey Jane Peedin
22 June 1859
2--- William H. (born 1827) , married Harriet E. Raiford on 21 December 1853 and
3--- Richard(born abt. 1827-29), married Elizabeth Hedgepeth on May 16, 1855
were brothers and
4--- Martha (born about 1826-27)
5--- Mourning who married Isac Stallings
4-12-1854
6--- Lucretia who married James Peedin
5-16-1854
are possible sisters of Alsey Sellers
================================================================
Info from Johnston County Marriages, deed abstracts, and census records.
In the 1850 census William H. Sellers (age 24) has the following living
with him.
Faithy age 75
Martha age 23
Daniel age 22
Alsey is married in 1846.
Moriah Sellers age 45 died in the 1850 census/Mortality schedule --
could she be the parent? She was living in the 8th district and so
was William H. Sellers. Is Faithy her Mother?

>From the Heritage of Johnston County, NC 1985 page 77 and 78
Late in 1866, Col. John W. Sharpe came to Mitchner's Station looking
for naval stores for a Virginia company. He was impressed by the tar and
turpentine available in the rich pine forests of central Johnston County
and decided that the station would be a good site for a town. Upon investigation
of the Mitchner property and titles, it was found that minor heirs were
involved and it would take quite some time to unravel the tangle, so he
met with Daniel Sellars, another local land owner, and purchased 50 ac.
of land. He convinced the North Carolina Railroad to move their depot and
train stop to this location and named it Selma, possibly after the town
of Selma, Alabama, his hometown. The land was surveyed and plotted by Charles
Massey, the Johnston County Surveyor, and on 1 May 1867, a sale of lots
was held at the station on its new site. Very few lots brought as much
as $100.00.

One last comment
It's "pure 100% speculation!!"
Could the George "Selers" of Northampton County-- 2/7/1756 abstract
and wife Faithy who sell 150 acres on the south side of Coriroy Swamp joining
Miry Branch (Wit by Arthur Sellers) be earlier parents or grandparents
of the Faithy Sellers born around 1775-1780 (and living in Johnston County)?

JOHNSTON CO, NC has many families that appear to be from NORTHAMPTON
CO,
NC.
WE have these DEED, etc books. Does someone else have extractions ,
so we

marie, iowa
I really think we are the exact same family!! I would love to exchange my information with you.
I have done extensive research on Fernie and I can give you info on others researching this line.
It is highly likely (but still speculation-no documented proof)
that my
GGGG Grandmother Cynthia Ann Millin(d)er, was a sister to
Fernie Jackson Millinder. Her name was
often spelled both ways.
Do you have Fernie Jackson's brothers and sisters?
How about family information listed in a Family Bible or
do you know of any one that does? It's hard to
find documentation on women since women were not listed in
very many documents before the 1850
census.
I also have info on his parents Daniel and Polly.
I as well as 8 others have been looking for a very long time
for Cynthia's family and I believe I have a
nice size list starting with the Millinders/ Milliner and
Sellers, in Johnston County, NC.
