My maternal grandmother was a Mattie SELLERS from (probably) Smith or
Simpson County, MS since my grandmother was born in Magee, MS in 1910.
Mattie was married to Jack LOVE (possibly James Kimble LOVE). Mattie's father was
Thomas Estes SELLERS. If anyone has any knowledge about either Thomas or
Mattie, please feel free to contact me at RPLOWERY@AOL.COM.

Many thanks and happy (family) hunting.

Marie:

Thanks for your incredibly prompt reply.  In answer to your request for more
information I will give you what I have.

My great-great grandfather was Thomas Estes Sellers whose spouse's name I do
not know.  As best I can tell at this point they had four children: Mattie
(my great grandmother), and three sons:  Neil, Estes and Jim (probably short
for James).  I don not have any dates for these.

Mattie married first Jack Love and they had three children:  Jewel Dorthelle
LOVE, James Kimble Vardaman LOVE and Julia Odell LOVE (my grandmother).
Julia was born in August 24, 1910 (sorry I had the year wrong earlier) and
died December 27, 1970.  She was married to James D. McWilliams, Sr. (b. Dec.
30, 1909nad d. November 15, 1991).  I believe my grandmother's birthplace was
Magee MS which is in Simpson County but I remember her talking about Mize, MS
which is in Smith County but only a few miles from Magee so I assume that is
where the family was living when she was growing up.

Mattie SELLERS married a second time to Luther CALHOUN Sr. and they had three
children:  Luther CALHOUN, Jr., Charles CALHOUN and Perry CALHOUN.

Mattie's brother Neil married (spouse Lou?) and had five children:  Leon,
T.H., "Dub", Gertrude and Virgie.  Since they are in the same generation with
my grandmother I would assume they were born during the first decade of this
century.

Most of this information is based on my mother's memories of these things and
there is no "paper trail" as yet.  That is what I am hoping to establish
eventually but needed a foot in the door with the Sellers.

If there is a better way for me to arrange this information and if you think
it would be of use I would be glad for it to be sent to the Sellers family
page which I am looking forward to seeing.

Until later, best wishes and thanks.

From:          RPLowery@aol.com     To:          mari@netins.net Marie: Many thanks!  That does look just like what I was looking for.  There's nothing like that foot in the door to get me started.  I am going to pass this on to my mother (and her sibs) to see if it starts ringing belss and getting more things out of their respective memories. Again thanks and I will keep the Sellers group up to date on my findings. Becky Lowery

BECKY - Good! - it DOES help the memory when they see the other names-
although, my mother, I could not TELL her, I had to just show her the
info/people in that county, let her read and think and come back to me!

I believe I have 1880 SIMPSON CO, MS already posted , as I noticed some
name similiarities? under James SELLERS - NOTICE his son THOMAS born ca
1864---
did NOT find James marriage
found Thomas J. SELLERS married 8-24-1881 Simpson Co,MS to
Miss C.A.MOORE
did NOT find Mattie's marriage ?
I did find a John Q. LOVE MARRIED jEFF cO,ms, 1-22-1893 to Mattie
Sumrall- if a person read the 1900 census (NOT census - would see all
the people/neighbors)
Local libraries can order these in for you - free or almost? phone local
genealogy society or my goodness sakes,go on line to MS/SIMPSON CO or?
and search/query

I do have others here in Simpson Co on the 1880/1900/10 census, I will
TRY and post, as they are probably people your mother would remember-
That's about all I know-
We are very short on MS INFO-

MOST times if I read/receive info from county - I will post directly to
that county/name and I may not get back to YOU for ages!
BUT, WE are ALL working on the same goal-
YOU can subscribe/be a member and receive all the SELLERS queries from
all states - ADVISE-

SEE IF anyone knows or graveyard has or obit has ESTES SELLERS
first/middle name= Henry?

THANKS FOR SHARING SELLERS-

Marie:

I have not had any information in a while but I do a small amount of data to
share about Mattie Sellers Love.  As you may remember, she was the daughter
of Thomas Estes Sellers of Simpson County, MS.  We had been unable to find
out anything about Jackson Love's marriage to her but I have found out why.
The clerk in Simpson County misspelled her name as Sellars on the license.
They were married on August 22, 1904 in Simpson County.

They also show up in the 1910 Simpson County census (Supervisor's district #
6, enumeration district 121, sheet #19B with the notation in the left margin
of Mendenhall and Raliegh Road.  It shows Jackson Love, 44, living with his
wife Mattie, their son Vardaman, their daughter Jewel and Estes Sellers
Jackson's son-in-law (brother of Mattie and aged 14).  Since the census was
done May 2, 1910 it does not show my grandmother Julia who was born two
months later.

In addition, they are "next door" to Mack Sellers, 37, the younger brother of
Thomas and uncle to Mattie.  He is living with his children Bertha, James,
Lazelie (?) and Bonnie.  Apparently, his wife Narcis had died.  Also, he
indicates that his mother (Priscilla) was born in Georgia which is no
surprise.  But he indicates his father James was born in South Carolina which
goes against what we knew about him from previous census data.

Finally, on a trip to MS my great aunt (Jewel) talked about an "uncle" Jesse
Sellers and his wife Julia but has no idea how they were related to the other
Sellers.  The ages mean it can't be the Jesse Sellers of the 1850 census but
maybe this Jesse was named after that Jesse.  I'll try to at least get dates
for him ASAP.

Best wishes and happy hunting.

Becky, I would appreciate the info from the 1910 Simpson Co,Ms census that you copied - to post to the web page - I believe I only have two families and I don't know if they are complete!
Maybe try and post SELLERS from surrounding counties - John Sellers in 1741-45 Smith Co,Ms and?     Thanks for sharing SELLERS, marie, iowa
