SAMUEL ROBERT WILSON
Samuel Robert Wilson was born near Hartford, Sebastian County.
Arkansas, on November 1, 1861. His parents, John R. Wilson and Lydia
(Sellers) Wilson, were born in Alabama and came to Arkansas from
Montgomery County, Alabama, in the early part of 1861. Besides their
son, Samuel Robert Wilson, they had a daughter, Levannah, born in Montgomery
County, Alabama, on February 10, 1851, who married John C. Crawford
near Hartford, Arkansas, in 1871. John R. Wilson was a teacher and
served as a justice of the peace and also in the Confederate Army from
-4rkansas. For a time, he worked as a carpenter on a boat which operated
between Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Memphis, Tenneasee, the principal
cargo being supplies for the army. His wife, Lydia, (Sellers) Wilson,
died in November, 1863, and three years later (1866) he married a second
time, Elizabeth Heavener. To this union were born three children: a
daughter, Ella Wilson, who married Jasper Black; and two sons, Floyd
R, Wilson, and John R. Wilson, Jr.
Samuel Robert Wilson was two years old when his mother died and
oaly eleven years old at the death of his father (1872). At the age of

I STAYED UP LATE FOR ME TO READ A TABLOID, CELEB MAG AND HAD TO ASK KATHI TO TYPE THE LAST TWO PARAGRAPHS IN THE OK CHOCTAW BOOK AS I'D BEEN TYPING OFF AND ON ALL DAY. IT WAS ABOUT WHY THE NATIVES DIDN'T WANT TO BE FOUND BY THE GOVERNMENT AFTER THE BOTCHED TRAIL OF TEARS AND HID IN INDIAN TERRITORY, NOW ARKANSAS. DURING THE CIVIL WAR, BUSHWHACKERS CAME TO THE SELLERS' FARM NEAR HARTFORD, STEALING CATTLE, AND FATHER OF LYDIA SELLERS WILSON WENT OUT TO SEE, AND THEY KILLED HIM. MAYBE THAT'S WHY WE DON'T KNOW WHERE HE'S BURIED.?? SHE HAD 2 CHILDREN, LAVANNAH WAS 12 AND SAMUEL R. WILSON II ABT. 2 BEFORE LYDIA DIED INSIDE FORT SMITH, 1863/64 WHERE SHE'D GONE TO ESCAPE NORTH/SOUTH BATTLES. I DON'T KNOW THE DISTANCE BETWEEN FORT SMITH AND HEAVENER, OK BUT THEY WALKED IT. LYDIA IS BURIED NEAR THE OLD COMMISSARY BLDG OUTSIDE THE FORT. FIRST SAM BECAME THE CHOCTAW COURT TRANSLATOR AFTER HE LEARNED CHOCTAW SO I'M GUESSING HE WAS WHITE.
FOUND THAT A MATHEW KING ALSO WORKED AS TRANSLATOR ON A TREATY. I'M READY TO GO OVER TO HSE PC AND SEE WHAT ELSE I CAN FIND. I KNOW THERE WERE WILSONS LIVING NEAR SELLERS IN DEKALB, BOWIE CO. IN AN OLD CENSUS. GETS ME "FIRED" UP FOR THE CHASE.

This info was from the 1981 book, "Choctaw Heritage" with the Choctaw seal that I bought from E-bay written by Betty Jeanne ? Ward Poulin. b. 1924. I said I'd pay $50, they wanted more, and I upped it to $75, When it came I'd payed $175 and was delighted. I think I told you it was "home grown" as no proper index, and it needed editing. I had to read page by page. It has all the treaties, names of chiefs, translators. The Trail of Tears was told to her by grandfather, Herbert Zach Ward or Dave Ward. When the government wanted more land in 1902, the town was named Heavener, Choctaw Nation. Joe Heavener filled out the paper requesting a post office and that's how it got its name. She said she'd worked on it for 43 yrs.
Margie Sellers Allen lives in DeKalb, Bowie Co., TX which is about 12 miles from Idabell, OK and when state lines were changed, DeKalb had been in McCurtain Co., named for Chief Green McCurtain who signed the town plats before OK was made a state, 1908 ?. My mt. grandfather was white and Cherokee, and I keep running across names that I've heard all my life when visiting in DeKalb.
I scanned John Randolph Sellers pix to Troy Pate. Haven't heard if he got it. Would you please give me the URL when he sent you the unknown pix he had? I'll just print them all as saw my JRS as a young man, looking the same as I remember him except his hair and mustache were black.
Lydia Sellers that d. at Fort Smith, 1863/4 walked with Luvannah, 12 ys and Samuel R. Wilson. II, 2 yrs old from Heavener, Choctaw Nation to the Fort. We're wondering if the old script made an "L" from an "S", misread for Suvannah.
Will get back to book or hse PC later today I hope. Use txcux@msn.com as this is just a keyboard and TV screen in my bedroom once known as pool/guest hse

Have just found she started a better way of enumerating on pg. 315- and will scan tomorrow. I made an error in spelling of Lavannah Wilson (La not Lu), and left out that John R. Wilson m. Elizabeth Heavener, sister of Joe Heavener, after Lydia Sellers Wilson died at the Fort. They had 3 children, John R. II, Ella and Floyd, before John R. Wilson was killed from a fall from his steam saw.
