TUSCALOOSA, Feb. 7 (AP) – Solicitor Edward DeGraffenreid yesterday filed suit against the national surety company and James B. Sellers, former county superintendent of education for recovery of $8,359.43 which was charged back to Sellers by state examiners of accounts.
The solicitor charges that the funds were misused, spent illegally and without authority. It is set forth that the county superintendent collected a special school tax in certain districts and placed the money in the general educational fund contrary to law. It is charge $5,781.09 was used in this manner.
The solicitor also charges that $2453 for transportation of students, $2,139.74 for insurance for school property, $262 for teachers’ salaries and $17778.25 for legal advice was illegally spent. He listed a payment of $1,412.63 to the Jefferson County board of education as paid by Sellers without authority.
