Family Maps of Pike County, Alabama, Deluxe Edition
http://www.thefamilyhistorystore.com/maps-c-112.html
By Gregory A. Boyd. 324 pages, with 77 total maps. There are 3 maps for each of the 24 Congressional townships that make up Pike County. Each Township has a Patent Map, Patent Index, Road Map, and a Map we call an Historical Map, which includes Waterways, Watercourses & Railroads. The Road and Historical Maps also include the City-centers and cemeteries that can be found at NationalAtlas.gov. There is also a Surname/Patent Index and a Surname/Township Index to help you dive into the right area of the County. Included Appendices identify multi-Patentee buying groups and also list the numerous Aliquot (section) parts you might find. This book is constructed to last with a plastic spiral binding, acid-free paper, and a tough, laminated cover.

of the
handwritting is really hard to read and some pages are very faint.
As a matter of fact I was looking at the 1860 and 1870 Pike County

There have been several queries regarding the history of Pike
County,
Alabama.
The definitive history of Pike County was written by Margaret
Pace Farmer,
a noted genealogist, researcher, historian, and author.
She has given the
rights to her book to The Pike Pioneer Museum, which uses the
profits from
the sale of the book in furthering their educational efforts.
The Pike
Pioneer Museum is the only source for the book - "ONE HUNDRED
FIFTY YEARS
IN PIKE COUNTY ALABAMA, 1821-1971".
Copies may be purchased ($15.00 plus $5.00 First Class Postage)
by writing
or calling the Pike Pioneer Museum.

If any of you are ever in Troy, don't miss the chance to visit
the Pike
Pioneer Museum, it's right on U. S. Hwy 231 N. just north
of Troy. They
have very informative displays on life in Pike County in its
formative
years. It will be well worth your time.

I have William C. Oates' civil war book right here - borrowed
it from my
brother to read about an ancestor - James Hamilton Metcalf. In
the
biographical notes, there is no mention of the names of Oates' parents,
much
less grandparents.
In the Clark Watters' Sellers book, the article on William
Calvin Oates
states that "he is the son of William and Sarah Sellers Oats, the
former
being
a native of South Carolina who moved to Montgomery in 1828, and
soon after
to
Pike Co., where he became a planter and married in 1854; grandson
of
Stephen
Oates and Elizabeth Shipps and of Matthew Sellers and Jane Ward
and a
descendant of Irish and French ancestors on the maternal side and of
Welsh
ancestors on the paternal side. Stephen Oates was born in North
Carolina
in
1878 and died in 1836." Author states that information, other
than birth
and
death dates, given by Charles Rufus Sellers, by Curra Bell Faulk, and
from
a
paper placed in the Sellers file in the Alabama Department of Archives
and
History, Montgomery, by Cornelia Selers Bean. Also, material
was used from
Thomas McAdory owens, Story of Alabama, A History of the State, Vol
I, pp.

Looking for info on Harriett Elizabeth Sellers born May 8, 1842 Al.
Died Aug. 6, 1905 Buried
Center Ridge Church south of Troy, AL. Married Stephen S. Smith
Abt. 1860
Her parents are Philip W. Sellers and Lidia A. Eddin. Brothers
and sisters are Julia,Lidia (Lillia),

any help with this family. She is
My Great Grandmother. Thanks Patsy at rmccoy@pacifier.com
On page 42 of the book,"Alabama's Pike Co." by Frank Ross Stewart, is
a
paragraph about Gamaliel Sellers:
"Gamaliel and Suzie Sellers of Perote had a daughter, Julie (1866-1913),
who married George Washington Huey (1863-1933), who was a merchant.
They
had two children: Estelle; Walton Sellers Huey, who married Katherine
Rowe,
and had Julia Huey, who married ONeal Griswold. Mrs. Griswold is prominent
in the civic and social life of the state and an attorney."
There are several other Sellers families discussed on the preceding
pages,
but I need to go back and get new copies as the copies I made had
unreadable areas in them, or I would set them down here.
