JONES FAMILY
Transcriptions of the 1836 Creek War muster-out roll for Matthew and Simeon Sellers and John Lewis, all of Henry County, gives the place of enrollment as "Bisofs" or "Bisoss". Such a name does show up in my Alabama Atlas. Deciperhing the script is difficult. The first four letters are clearly B, I, S and O, The fifth letter might be F, H, P or S. The final letter is clearly S. Double ess's ("ss") in 19th-century penmenship were inked such that the first "s" was elongated above and below the line much like the combination of a p and an f. The transcriber might have been flummoxed by that and created the closest thing. So, it could very well be Bisoss.
Does any variant of these letters ring any bells? A placename,
on old township, a family name, a crossroads, an old store?

CORLEY, SELLERS, STANDLEY posted by Joe Mack Walker on Thursday, July 1, 1999
I have a copy of the Henry County Orphans Court records dated April 25, 1842.
This was the final settlement of Jerimiah Corley's estate. Jerimiah's widow,
Mary, had married Mathew Sellers in 1837 and he was the executor of Jerimiah
Corley's (no doubt about the spelling) will. There were 5 shares divided this
way: 1 share to James Standley for his wife Jerimiah Corley. 1 share to James
B. Standley for his wife (Matilda)Marabelle Corley. 3 shares to Mathew Sellers
for his wife Mary and 2 minor children. I also have copies of the original
marriage records of both Mahala Corley to James Standley and Matilda Corley
to James B. Standley. On both original documents the names is Corley. None of
the original records say Cowley.

My Wiggins cousin, Gail Lacy, found our gr-grandmother, Clarissa

Henry Unk last name listed in 1900 Henry Co (Fowlers Mill precinct)
census
yesterday! We are so happy--but, we can't make out Henry's last
name--looks
like it starts with an L--any help would be appreciated! Son, Fletcher
Wiggins is listed below Clarissa as stepson. Listed also on same
census,
my grandfather/grandmother, Bedford & Dilly Wiggins Darden with
daughter
"Merle"? Her name was "Bonnie"--why the census taker put down Merle
is
amazing! Bedford's half-brother, Wyatt Sellers, is listed on census
as
being a boarder--My Mom told me that Wyatt was born blind (a son
of my
gr-grandmother, Malissa Darden Sellers and step-gr-grandfather,
Calton
E. Sellers).
Carlton Sellers b: c: 1839 in AL m: Malissa Smith\Darden c: 1868
(b:
c:1835 in GA) and are on the 1870 Henry Co.AL census. They are listed
with two children of their own Matt 2 yrs.s and James 6 mo.
There are also two children of Malissa's Bedford age 14 and
Ann age
9 Darden.
Does anyone have any information of these people. We are
desperatly
seeking any clues to where they may have gone. I am trying to help
a
very elderly gentleman find his grandmother....Malissa. She d: c:
1916. We also would like any information available on any of the
other members of this family.... Thanks

Hi. It will be 2 - 3 weeks before I will be able to travel
to Dothan
Library (about 30 miles away)to do a lookup (I was there twice this
week!). We are
going to a family reunion, and then will have company in for a couple
of
weeks. Please bear with me, and I will see what I can find.
The info that
I have in my collection is mostly Sellars/Sellers from Houston/Geneva/Dale
County, AL and limited Holmes/Washington County, FL. I will
get back to
you as soon as possible. Have a good 4th!

Hello Jimmy,
Could you please post data on John G. Pridgen's brothers and sisters?
Also, was he born in Alabama or some other place?
I'm searching for proof of parents of John E. Pridgeon (middle name
Elkin, spelling unknown) in north Florida about the same time as
John G.
Pridgen.

Trying to find info on Petition for Letter of Guardianship by C.E.
Sellers. R.C. Granberry and W.O.
Long are probably witnesses. Dan Gordon is Judge of Probate. This
document concerns estate of
Annie C. Darden, a minor, dated 10 Feb 1882. Looks like Calton E.
Sellers was granted guardianship
of Annie born 13 Aug 1862 GA? AL? died 20 July 1902 buried Cottonwood
Cem, AL after he posted
$1600 bond. In this document, it states that Annie in her own right,
situated in the state of Georgia,
which estate is estimated to be worth about ($800.00). Annie is
my great-aunt, my grandfather's
(Bedford Henry Darden born 1858 Macon GA)
sister. Annie married Willis Granger, Houston Co AL.
I'd sure like to know where this land (estate) of Annie's was located
in Georgia and how she came
about inheriting it. I'm trying to find info on my Darden-line.
Calton E. Sellers was stepfather to Annie and Bedford, married to my gr-grandmother,
Malissa Smith Darden Sellers. I'm searching for info on
Gr-gr grandfather Darden, whose first name we aren't sure of--died
in Civil War--we don't know if he died representing GA or AL, was most
likely AL.

61st Alabama Infantry Regiment
The 61st Alabama Infantry [also known as the 59th Alabama Infantry] was organized
at Pollard in September, 1863. A number of the men, from Barbour, Chambers, Coffee,
Henry, and Macon counties, had been in camps of instruction for some time
under the conscript law of congress, while the officers were mostly veterans.
The regiment was first brigaded under Gen'l James H. Clanton, but in January 1864,
it was ordered to Virginia. Reaching Orange Courthouse, the 61st took the place
of the 26th Alabama in Cullen A. Battle's Brigade, Robert Rodes' Division. The
61st was first under fire at The Wilderness where its loss was severe, but it
captured a battery, killed Union Gen'l Jenkins, and almost annihilated his New
York Zouave Brigade. At Spotsylvania, the 61st lost heavily in casualties and
prisoners during the several days' fighting. Its losses were not so severe at
2nd Cold Harbor, and it soon after moved into the Valley with Gen'l Jubal Early
and crossed into Maryland. At Snicker's Gap and Winchester, the loss of the 61st
was severe; it was even greater at Fisher's Hill. Rejoining the main army, the
regiment took its place in the trenches at Petersburg and lost continually, especially
in prisoners at Hare's Hill. On the retreat to Appomattox, the 61st fought much
of the time and surrendered there with 27 men under Capt. August B. Fannin.
Field and staff officers: Col. William G. Swanson (Macon); Lt. Cols. Louis
H. Hill (Coosa; captured, Petersburg); N. Smith Graham (re-appointed); Major
William E. Pinckard (Macon; captured, Petersburg); and Adjutants Charles T.
Pollard (Montgomery; resigned); and Thomas T. Greene (Montgomery).

Payment or Rev War List =
We do have a Matthew and Simeon SELLERS here in the 1835/6 CREEK WAR and documents to prove, but, ages don't appear to be old enough to be in Rev War.
These born ca 1800 .
Do you have the extraction of history to send? Or url?
It probably connects to a family member, we may be able to prove or check out.
