I'm looking for records for the estate settlement of Adam Sellers
in Warren
County, Ohio, circa 1835.
Adam Sellers was born in 1747, presumably in Lancaster County, PA,
the son
of Heinrich and Anna Maria Zeller.
The family migrated to present-day Rockingham County, VA, in the
McGaheysville, VA area, circa 1750.
In the early 1800's, Adam sold off his Virginia land holdings, and
moved to
Warren County, Ohio with wife Barbara (Teeter) where he bought approximately
600 acres. He died in Warren County, Ohio, in 1821 and is
buried in the
Salem Cemetery on East Springboro Road.
As family history has it, Adam died intestate (without a will) and
the final
settlement of the estate took nearly 15 years to complete.
I have not been
able to find any information concerning his death nor his eventual
estate
settlement.
Adam was supposedly born in 1742, however, when buried in 1821,
his age was
given as '74', meaning a 1747 birth year.
If anyone has any info or copies of these records, or knows how I
can find
them, please let me know.
Thanks!
Michael Sellers
5th Great Grandson of Adam Sellers
FRANK M. SELLERS = (descendants of Heinrich Sellers) did cover this
ADAM
SELLERS 1742/1821 and he only lists 6 kids = HENRY, CHRISTIAN, PETER,
MARY,
ELIZABETH, ADAM.
They may be the kids proven in above papers, assuming he read them.
The
estate papers are Not listed in his history nor are they listed
in the
ZELLER history.
Thanks for sharing, marie, iowa
Frank Sellers is correct in that Adam and Barbara (Teeter) Sellers
had only
the 6 children:
1) Christian; married
Mary Amelia Elizabeth Schneider. Born 1768 in
Rockingham County, VA, migrated to Parke
County, Indiana, and died October
13, 1841. Both are buried in the Old Moriah Cemetery, Greene
Township,
Parke County, Indiana.
2) Heinrich II (Henry,
Jr); married Mary Margaret "Molly" Hedrick.
Heinrich is the next step in my ancestry. Born in Rockingham
County, VA,
circa 1769, died in Rockingham
County, VA, September 3, 1841. Burial place
unknown.
3) Peter; married (unknown)
Born 1771 in Rockingham County, VA.
Date died, unknown. Burial place unknown.
4) Mary Christina;
married Charles Null. Born 1773 in Rockingham
County, VA, died June 12, 1824 in Warren
County, Ohio. Mary Christina, her
husband, Charles Null, and her father, Adam Sellers, are buried
in the Salem
Cemetery on East Springboro Rd, Warren County, Ohio. Mary
Christina has
often been mistaken as having Peter Harshman II as her 2nd husband.
This is
NOT the case.
5) Elizabeth; married
#1, Jacob Cash; married #2, Matthias Schneider
(Snyder). Matthias is presumed to be the brother of Mary Amelia
Elizabeth
Schneider that married Elizabeth's brother, Christian. Elizabeth
was born
March 15, 1776, died April 27, 1862. Buried in Brown Memorial
United Church
of Christ Cemetery, McGaheysville,
VA.
6) Adam, Jr.; born 1778
in Rockingham County, VA. Date died,
unknown. Burial place also unknown.
I have seen mention of an 1828 will of Barbara Sellers in Preble
County,
Ohio. In all likelihood, this is the Will of Barbara (Teeter)
Sellers, wife
of Adam Sellers who preceeded her 7 years earlier in 1821.
It has been
mentioned that this Barbara Sellers is the wife of Adam Sellers.
However,
the Adam Sellers most have attributed this as being was Adam, son
of
Christian. This is incorrect. I believe the "Barbara
Sellers" of the 1828
Will was Barbara (Teeter) Sellers, wife of Adam Sellers (1747-1821).
Marie, has anyone pulled THAT 1828 Will of Barbara Sellers?
Perhaps it
would throw some light on the remaining estate, if any, of her husband
Adam
Sellers (my 5th Great Grandfather).
Thanks!
Michael

Based on the info you sent, there is little doubt in my mind this
is indeed
the Barbara (Teeter) Zellers, widow of my 5th Great Grandfather,
Adam
Sellers.
I'm even more sure based partly on a few individuals listed for
the Case as
Administrator and as buyers of some of the property.
Examples;
Peter Harshman, Administrator: Peter Harshman (II) was Barbara
(Teeter)
Zellers son-in-law. He married her daughter, Mary Christina
Zeller, in
Rockingham County, VA.
They relocated to Preble County, Ohio,
where he had
land granted to him in Washington Township, Section 9, on September
27,
1811. Mary Christina died of Typhoid Fever in Preble County,
Ohio, in 1827.
He eventually held more than 800 acres in Washington Township ...
the same
Township where this estate sale was held.
Elijah Harshman: Died in Preble County, Ohio, in 1839.
Was a brother of
the Peter Harshman (II) mentioned above.
David Fudge: Was Barbara (Teeter) Zellers nephew. He
was the son of
Barbara's sister, Mary Magdalene Teeter and her husband, Conrad
Fudge.
Adam Fudge: Cousin to David Fudge.
Margaret Harshman: Sister-in-law of Peter Harshman (II).
The family connections of these people to Barbara (Teeter) Sellers,
widow of
Adam Sellers, is too strong and too much of a coincidence for this
to have
not been her.
Its a shame there isn't a Will out there of her's as well.
